There are times that a strategic benching can do wonders to get a player refocused, and I think this is one of those times. He's already embarrassed himself and the team (nationally, vs. Giants), and to prevent him from becoming a long-term "head case" Rivera should consider benching him for a game or two. Holding the clipboard isn't going to kill him, but could make him fiercely determined to win back the starting job by merit, as opposed to default. Rivera and Chud certainly factor into the teams lack of production (as does Hurney, for not bringing in a strong #2 years ago), but ultimately Cam is the difference between 4 - 1 and 1 -4 (Bucs 10 pts, Atl fumble, Seattle 10 pts). NO ONE thought that our OFFENSE would be "the problem" - other than the out-of-towners that were hoping for a "sophomore slump" (a theory that has been disproven, as statistically MOST QB's do better in 2nd yr than 1st). Long story short, AFTER the Cowboys game (because that game COULD be a career changer if we were to dominate), IF we lose, I'd bench Cam for at least one game, probably two, then let him finish the season. Despite everyone's prediction that the season is over, if we run the table (unlikely but possible) we'll make the playoffs. Fans just have a desire of not setting themselves up for further disappointment, but like the 'ol Fox used to say, "All this means is that our best possible record is 12-4". Will that happen? Probably not, but we still need to do what's best for the team as a whole, and until Cam gets his head straight, nothing profoundly good will happen on a consistent basis. IMO
