Handling of Beason Going Forward

Stay connected for news and updates

The organization needs to think past this season in regards to Beason. He's clearly not himself right now and that could be the rust of missing last season or his body just not being back to where it was. Most likely it's a combination of both. Regardless, the team spent its first round pick on a linebacker who happened to play middle linebacker in college. Instead of running a banged up Beason out there every Sunday why not give Kuechly an extended look?

I'm not advocating for sending a former Pro Bowler to the bench for the rest of the season, but instead give him an opportunity to get healthy because at this time when he's on the field he's doing more bad than good. I could understand the urgency to have him out there if he was producing but that just isn't the case. How many routine tackles has he failed to come up with? How many times has he been beat in coverage? Hopefully the team takes it slow with him, let's his body heal and works him back into the lineup.

Kuechly has been up and down this season and in my opinion a bit disappointing, especially against the run. I'm perfectly fine with him playing middle 'backer for the time being. I understand it's still early in the season and way too early to give up on Beason, but at what point do you change course and make an adjustment?
