Hurney is putting himself on the hotseat

Pro Football Talk recaps Hurney's VERY heated interview this morning on the Mac Attack...

I’m the one that’s turning up the heat. This is my life and I can’t tell you the agony you go through every time you lose a game. Obviously, I believe in what we’re doing. And I do believe that we have talent and the coaching staff and the people to be good. But the bottom line is right now we’re 1-3. So I understand all the criticism. I don’t necessarily have to agree with everything that’s said, but I get it. My job’s to win football games, and we’re not doing that. . . . Nobody takes it harder than I do. . . . It’s like dying every time you lose a game. It just rips your heart out, it rips your guts out. And no one feels worse about it than I do. You feel like you let the whole region down.

Clearly Pro Football Talk is exaggerating their Headline. But nevertheless, Hurney is right that the finger should be pointed at him right now. Consider this...

Many of us here wanted Hurney to go after free agent DB Jonathan Joseph in the 2011 off season. Joseph turned out to be a great free agent signing for the Texans. That would have cost about $48million, IF he was willing to come here. But all indications were that Hurney showed no interest. Instead he resigned DeAngelo Williams (among others) to a similar contract, despite having another high caliber RB in Jonathan Stewart.

In this Sunday's loss to Atlanta, DeAngelo had only 49 yards due to splitting duties with 3 other ball carriers in a bloated backfield created by Hurney. Meanwhile Car lost the game in the last 59 seconds, due to ATL exploiting Car covering their elite WR with a 6th round rookie CB and an unproven free agent FS (because apparently starting cheap free agent DB's is a better strategy). If Hurney would have taken our advice, Joseph would have been covering White on that play (not to mention the previous 3 quarters), and Car would have likely walked away with a 'W'.
