Carolina Panthers Vs. Chicago Bears: Sir Pour's brew for the game

A Halloween tradition continues

Marty Hurney's firing was a staunch reminder that things change. Players come and go, coaches join organizations-- only to leave them years later. Through this one thing remains relsolute: Beer is amazing, and here at CSR Sir Pour believes in a Halloween tradition.

Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale

Every year for Halloween it's Weyerbacher that's the pick. The reason is quite simple: I think it's the best embodiment of the season.

The Brewery

Weyerbacher Brewing Company of Easton, PA was started by a husband and wife team in 1995. They're still a fairly small brewery, but each year they crank out a host of big, flavorful brews. Starting with their Raspberry Imperial Stout they began a tradition of big flavors blended with hoppy Imperial style ales. Today they distribute in 18 different states.

The Brew

I got married to my wonderful, and enduring wife in January of 2008. My groomsmen knew how much I loved this ale that they bought out the entire stock at a local beer store in October, and kept it for three months only to unleash a case-load during my bachelor party... good times.

Sometimes a brew's nose and taste don't align- but not this one. You are hit up front with a big clove/cinnamon taste followed up by sweet pumpkin and finishing with the bitter hops and a bite of the alcohol on the finish. I find it to be an extremely complex and delicious brew. Both because of the flavor and high alcohol content (8.0% ABV) it's one to be had in small doses.

How it relates to the game

It's 8% alcohol... you'll probably need it.

It will fill you with joy... you'll probably need it.

It wont let you down... you definitely need it.

Price point

Available in large pint bottles for between $5-6, singles for around $3, or in a four-pack ranging between $9-11

Where to buy

Some grocery stores might have it, but you're better off seeking a dedicated beer and wine store.
