Dockery (31) adds more size to the secondary - Mike Carter-US PRESSWIRE
A cornerback has been added in the wake of injury news
The Carolina Panthers have wasted no time in adding a player to their roster during the rash of injuries sustained, today signing cornerback James Dockery off waivers from the Cleveland Browns.
A 2011 undrafted free agent, Dockery attended Oregon State as a highly-touted recruit who never lived up to lofty expectations. Lackluster performances by the Beavers, paired with injury woes, ensured he would never be drafted highly-- though few expected him to fall out of the draft.
A 6-1 corner, Dockery adds more size to a secondary unit that needs it. Ron Rivera has already shown a preference for archetypal players, and this addition is no different. He appeared in 12 games for the Cleveland Browns last season, totaling a pedestrian five tackles on the year.
In 2010 he was named first team All-Pac-10, a year which saw him finish with four interceptions and five passes defended. This is a back of the rotation player, but with the dearth of talent in the secondary, and a coaching staff in desperate need of shaking things up, there is a chance Dockery will get opportunities to show his ability.
