One name has surfaced as the interim GM
The Carolina Panthers have announced a press conference set for noon, pushing back Ron Rivera's typical Monday press conference.
Purely speculative at this point, but it's likely we will hear from team president Danny Morrison, and possibly Jerry Richardson, depending on how the Big Cat views the need for him to be there. Don't expect any huge revelations past the "It was a tough decision", and "It was time for us to both move on", however it will be really interesting to see who the Panthers name as Hurney's interim successor.
According to the AP's Steve Reed, he believes this will be director of football operations, Brandon Beane. A former director of team operation, Beane arrived in the 2003 Superbowl season as a logistical assistant, and since became one of Marty Huney's right-hand men. This is par for the course when you fire a general manager or coach mid-season-- keep the ship barely afloat, and then get everything sorted out in the off-season. Change is afoot.
