Newton Post-Game: 'I'm Not the Play Caller'

Stay connected for news and updates

Grant Halverson

Panthers QB Cam Newton had a few eye brow raising comments in his post game presser that some might construe as evidence the team is losing confidence in the offensive coaching. It's clear everyone is frustrated and hopefully this is just reflective of that and nothing more.

The national media will probably try to make more out of this than it really it is but here's some of the key excerpts from his post game presser:

Newton: We have to make more plays. Finding a way to lose the game instead of win it. Past couple of games it is the same script....

On 4th down play: I was trying to throw the ball away...

I'm looking forward to a game where we score 35 points...

Something has to change to real fast if we want to take the next step...

We have to be more balanced...

We keep waiting until the end of the game to make a play and I'm tired of it.

You might take his words as meaning he is losing confidence but he tone does not project that. He sounds like a guy that is just frustrated.

Finally Newton closed with this:

I'm going to leave a suggest box and maybe ya'll can tell me what to do.

Again, some might say he was being a smart ass but really I think he is just showing post game frustration and nothing more. Let's see how it plasy out tomorrow. Things don't get much easier next we as we travel to Chicago.
