Janoris Jenkins Has Changed His Ways
I put this link up in another thread. I'm putting it in a Fanshot so more people will see it. This quote from the article pretty well illustrates his attempts to better himself:
"I tell everybody now if you’re going to come around me and smoke weed, I can’t hang around you," Jenkins said. "We’re friends, but while you’re smoking marijuana, I can’t hang around you."

Impressive
But can he handle it when the spotlight is on him?
His talent is worth top 10 selection but his character isn’t… but if he can keep this up he might be a star

It's good to hear him talk the talk
Just gotta see him walk the walk once he gets paid. He’s still going to have to do a ton to convince teams around the league.

He is saying the right things...it's a very mature response
and hits at the core of the issue…who you’re hanging with can make all the difference. I have hope for this kid.
I like to hear that
Don’t know if he’s telling the truth, but the fact that he admits that he had a problem is encouraging.
I am feeling a little better about him, and would consider taking him late in the first
round or in the second if he lasted that long. The team would have to feel really good about him though.
I thought he looked pretty good in the Senior Bowl during the portions I watched. He had a nice physical tackle on a running play, and a nice physical stop on special teams. In any regular game, the touchdown he gave up would have easily been offensive pass interference.

I'm still concerned by his lack of size, personal issues aside.
I’m the first to admit that we don’t need a big CB, we need a good one, but him being sub-5’10" is worrisome.

From what I've seen he is listed at 5'10"...
but I share the same concern anyhow. Covering college WRs who still have some range in height and NFL WRs who are becoming (and will continue to become) almost universally 6’+ are two different things, and I’m not sure how valuable 5’10" CBs and under will be in the next 10 years of the league.
With all that said, I didn’t really follow either team he was on. I’m sure he was pitted up against some tall CBs in college, anyone have some info on how he did against them?
He had to cover Julio Jones and AJ Green

he is really impressive on tape
he is forsure the second best cover corner in the draft
that argument could definitely be made...
but Morris Claiborne is reallly good in coverage. But Jenkins is much better in coverage than Kirkpatrick in coverage imo.
Nice stuff to hear
Except it’s this time of year every prospect with problems is trying to sell every team on the fact they’ve ‘changed’. Some really have, but for every player who has legitimately matured there’s a Pacman Jones who is able to do/say all the right things in pre-draft interviews only to revert to their old ways as soon as they’re drafted.
A fight, another fight, a weed charge, another weed charge… the arrests for fighting concern me more than the marijuana, but all together they paint the picture of a person who routinely loses control or finds themselves in bad situations.
The risk with Jenkins will not change, so it will behoove us to lessen the risk in taking him by either gambling he’ll last until the second round, or trade back far enough that the assets gained will offset the possibility of him flaming out. Even if he grades out to be the 2nd best CB in the draft I would be extremely upset if we spent a top 10 pick on him.
At least he's been trouble-free for a year. Dre Kan't say that.
… someone will take a chance on Jenkins in the mid-first, but I personally don’t think it’s where we need to go. I’m believing Hogan will be ready for prime time in 2012; and with Gamble, Captain, Butler, and Stanford we should be good to go.
If I had to guess, if Hogan were in this draft (healthy and trouble-free), he might be behind only Claiborne and Kirkpatrick in the scouts’ eyes. If we draft a CB in the 1st two rounds, then obviously I’m wrong =)
So much to be done, and so few people willing to do it for me.
If we could trade back
This would be my choice.
"What do you want to say to those critics now?"
"Just sit back and watch the show." -Cam Newton
This is nothing more
then some PR guy telling him how to respond.
to be honest
he wouldnt be my first choice, but I wouldnt be upset with him in the 1st.
Right now there are a bunch of players i like that grade out as mid teens in the first. I’m all for trading back to pick up a 2nd or 3rd.
I’d be fine with taking Kirkpatrick, Jenkins, Brown, or Coples in the 1st, and there are a TON of players i like in the 2nd
I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was
I'd rather see help on the defensive line.
The new defensive backs coach will make a huge change.
The backs are on their third coach in three years. Some stability will do them a great deal of good. More pass rush, particularly up the middle of the line will help a LOT.
Fix the line, then the linebackers, then talk about the backs. EVERYTHING starts up front on both sides of the line.
