The Panthers have officially announced a new logo. This is the first time since the team's inception in 1995 that the logo has been changed.

i couldn’t help but laugh at the over-the-top explanation in the press release.

I couldnt help but laugh at the logo itself. If they got rid of the blue swoop in the jaw/mouth and the spikey bangs on the top right it might look alright. Who the hell okayed this design? Hopefully this also means we are gonn get some cool new uniforms for this season as well

The logo was redesigned to have depth of field, why weren’t the letters?

I thought the same, a 3D or black shadow effect is absolutely needed.
The blue by itself is just blah. It in a 3D effect in the video on the website, and it looks a lil better there.

They showed a presentation of it on panthers.com in a movie, and in the movie, it had a 3D block effect that made it look much much better.

I think the blue in the upper right is supposed to give the face depth, to make it look like the panther is blue and the black is in shadow.

I've gotten used to it
I don’t hate it anymore. It looks much more modernized, and when you compare the new and old, you see how necessary it was. I don’t mind the lip, either. The only thing that irks me is the random curl coming below its eye on the right. It’s pointless.
Anyway, new QB, new Coach, new Carolina Panthers.

Change the font for the numbers on the jerseys… Look at what the Lions did with their jerseys. They had that old school number font, and they modernized it with their new logo…
I think the Panthers need a similar treatment for their unis… maybe an all black Alternate?

Im really not sure how I feel about this yet
I have always thought we were the coolest looking team in the league. i know some people want change but the problem what happens if you get a change and it looke like crap. I dont dislike the logo but I could have lived with the original.

but i’m really glad the hulk-a-mania font is dead. not a huge fan of the replacement, but at least it’s gone. that alone should win us 3 games.

Honestly I think the eye is a bigger problem.
You notice that one eye is smaller, even when looking at a small version of the logo. You have to look pretty hard to see the lip IMO.

Ok, do this...
take your hand and cover the top half above the eyes and the bottom half below the eyes and they look rather…retarded for lack of a better word. If you do this with the old logo you see fierceness, now that’s what the eyes should convey.
To me the eyes are the first thing that grab your attention in a lot of things because it’s one of the facial features that can can direct you towards how/what someone is feeling. The other feature is the mouth so I guess it could go either way depending on the person but seriously the eye needs a fix up.

They don’t have both their eyes open wide. Weird as that sounds, look it up. Its more like a snarl so one eye is more open than the other. Look at the lion at the start of any movie, exact same thing. Though its also possible I’m talking utter shit

The thing is though, I don’t hate the logo. I actually like it, save for “the lip”. I’m sure I’ll get over it (I always do…just like Cam wearing #1), but I just wish they wouldn’t have made “the lip” part of the design.

is the way the logo looks on black with the new blue lighting up more of the face making it “more visible” on a black background, I really hope we get an all black uni

Ok, just for kicks and sake of comparison do the following to both pictures:
Take your your hand and cover the top of the picture after the eyes and the the bottom half below the eyes.
Note the difference in the looks of the eye. One implies intimidation and fear and the other one is like “derp”.

If you pay attention to the flow of the "lip"from the viewers Right to left
It starts out on the outside of the upper jaw and teeth, but ends inside the upper jaw and teeth. Not only does our logo have a fat lip, but it also has a dislocated jaw.
Someone should be fired for this, it is crap design. I could have found 5 graphic design students from Trident Tech that would have noticed and fixed that in the first draft.

The left logo’s color is nothing near that blue its a teal.
I personally hate the font. It looks rushed, completely uninspired and looks like someoen made it while bored at work. Imo its just as bad as the hulkamania font just in a different way.

I agree somewhat with this.
The design of the letters doesn’t bother me… however, since we are adding depth of field to the logo, we should be adding the same depth to the words. There needs to be some sort of dimensional effect on them.

Your logos look indisputably better however ours...
is more up to debate. If our new logo fixed the “lip” and the twitching eye, perhaps give the panther a more menacing eye sight, it would probably be indisputably great as well.

but once I saw about 10 posts whining about the eyes, I decided to pull the old logo and analyze it. The eyes are not the same size. One is proportionately smaller than the other.
Also, If I was the one who made the logo, then I could come in and brag that what you guys find as total crap just landed me a new benz.

Everyone has different perceptions of the new logo. Some like it some don’t others don’t care but it doesn’t mean that anyone is more completely correct on the subject than the next person. We’re just expressing our opinion here.

I understand the hate of ‘the lip’ but I think in 6 months it will be old hat and we’ll all be used to it.
It’s a good change that still pays homage to the past logo while giving it a much needed fresh coat of paint. I’m a big fan. I can’t wait to see how this will look on a jersey

Personally I'm not opposed to change.
But I prefer change that makes something better, not that makes something worse.
Two days ago we had a fierce looking panther logo. Today, we have a panther logo that looks like it’s had its ass kicked by the other logos in the league. The fat lip is atrocious, IMO, and if they would just change that one little thing it would make a world of difference.

Unless it was an odd angled “light” effect they were going for. I don’t know. It’s not bad. I was a tad disappointed at first though. I’ll deal with it and probably love it by September. Ha!

But I honestly don’t give a crap. I’m more about how our cap space is going to affect our FA. The logo is basically the same. The ‘lip’ is its jaw isn’t it? Also I think it looks quite a bit more bad ass… The stupid whimsical eyebrows on the old logo are gone.

It looks muscular and cleaner at the same time. The circular blue highlights achieve this affect.

I hope they make the helmets black as well. I think the new logo would look good with a black helmet as the background.
If you cover the right (the Panther's left) side of the face
just right down the middle of the nose it looks pretty badass! It even compensates for the big blue lip. Flip that and it looks like “Monty the Derp Panther”. Maybe they can fit it for a phantom of the opera type mask?

I'll give you that...
The lip is odd and this is much improved.
As for the eyes, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. You’re not looking at the panther dead-on; it’s at an angle, but I do think they managed to skew it just a bit. Good way to tell if your image looks good is to flip it (across the vertical axis) and see if it still looks good.
Not sure this one passes that test with those eyes….

We don’t know what they’re going to do with it and even if we did you can’t say it’ll look shit until we actually see it in action. Why don’t we update the csr panther too? If everyone thinks they can do better you could have them submit their efforts and the winner gets their logo on csr? Just an idea. I really don’t see the problem at all, the old logo is massively dated in comparison and I think they’ve done a good job on the whole. A black helmet is a bit ‘steelers-ish’ isn’t it?

I think with the black background you get the intended 3-D like effect.

part of the problem is ....
if you have to say “look at it this way, then you see it best”, then you dont necessarily have an improvement, just a change.
I mostly dont like it for the winking right eye, right for thr viewer. otherwise its not that different. from a distance, it look no different then before.

Premeptive twss. The backgrounds look good but not so much the blue. Where is this picture from? I think they all look bad ass, if anything you hated ‘lip’ looks worst on the black

When it's on the black it looks like a chin, not a lip.
On the other backgrounds you can see the black below it, making it look like a lip.

Which is exactly
why I belive it to be designed for a black background.
Steelers aren't the only team with a black helmet.
Jags, Falcons, and Ravens have black helmets too. And it is one of our primary colors, after all.

Why not change the helmet to Gold while we’re at it so we can be an exact duplicate of the Saints?
Black and Carolina blue looks better than...

At first...
I liked the idea of black helmets, I don’t think it works for our logo (past/present).
I do believe the helmet’s color will be adjusted. It might be closer to white or a darker shade of grey.
Our Jerseys should be distinctive and different from other teams
The Raiders have silver helmet, black jerseys, grey pants
The Ravens and Steers have Black Helmets, Black Jerserys (and black pants on the Ravens)
The Lions have silver helmets, blue jerseys, grey pants.
No one has Light Blue Jerseys/ White helmets, except the Chargers alternate Jerseys.
Perhaps that’s an option

I think the new one is awesome....
The old logo looked like he had down syndrome. The eyes were way too close together. And the “squinty eye” thing is just from the snarling. If you watched a video of a real panther do the same I think you’d see where they are coming from…however I DO agree the lip is a bit too fat…trim it a little and its purfect. Its also a perspective thing…looks fine to me. And the curl under the squinted eye is just the outline of the nose area. The typeface….now THAT’S another story. The old typeface looked rough and aggressive like the letters were scratched by the panther itself. And it used to be one of the most unique typefaces in the league. Now its a boring Microsoft looking font from the 80’s with a couple of scratches in it.
