UPDATE: Now official: After finalizing a five-year deal, the Buccaneers officially have hired Greg Schiano as their next head coach.
Bucs have informed other candidates they are in process of hiring Greg Schiano as head coach. Deal not quite done but barring a last minute reversal a la Chip Kelly last week, this will be finalized shortly. Tampa had the last head coaching opening.

BREAKING NEWS!
Chud has been hired to be the CEO of Kick Ass Sports Inc.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
ACC Championship Member Brandon Thompson is the new Jacoby Ford. You better pick him Panthers or you will be doomed to relive the 2010 season over and over again in the Twilight Zone.
Clemson 2011 ACC Champions! Look forward to doing it again next year! :D
for me its more about having continunity for cam for a year
I’m resigned to the fact that chud is gone at some point, but do believe that having him for another will benefit cam and our offence for the future. don't you care about chud at all b-dub you heartless bastard ?? Lol

Honestly, no I really don't.
He’s an offensive coordinator…for a football team.

yeah but he is a good one
The dark days of that doughnut eating burlap sack are still etched into my memory. Like I said its the continuity that’s important not the man. Glad he’s staying for another year

I agree that he's a good one. But there are others out there as well.

lets give chud a raise
and maybe a 3 year contract and the title of assistant head coach. that way he will be here for all of cams contract or at least if someone comes calling we can get some compensation for him. im not sure of the rules on that but i would like to see us get picks for coaches instead of just giving them away ala jack del rio.

After next season it will be about what Cam did, not what Chud did for Cam.
So I’m not sure it’s necessary to pay him more than we need to—meaning we could probably keep him on his current contract. But I would not be opposed to adding some years to it…
I like to think of myself as a one-man wolfpack.
He is going to leave after next season so NO.

chud isnt going anywhere soon
Look how many tries it took Rivera to get a head job and he had top ds every single year. Until chud can put togeter a few games where his offenses play four quarters he will be a oc. If the giants ever actually let Coughlin go there will be bigger names out there to fill that spot heck the d coordinator on that very team would be a good one.

I’m glad that Chud isn’t leaving. On one hand you have to be worried for our team. On the other, you remember that most owners won’t hire a head coach from a losing team because he won’t want fans to say “Oh wow! We hired the offensive coordinator from the Carolina friggen Panthers. Woot. We are so boned.”
It’s the advantage of being a fan of this team. You pay closer attention, so you know when you’ve got something good. The rest of the sports world don’t know.

Bummer. Thought I had a chance to make the front page for the first time.
Oh well. Someday.
Glad to see we get to enjoy Chud for at least 1 more year. Lets hope he wants to prove all those teams that passed on him wrong and unleashes even more offensive magic on them next year.

very good news.
Offense worked so well last year would be a shame to change coordinators now. Continuity will be good for Cam’s development methinks.
Good hire for the Bucs, IMO.
This is exactly what they need…a disciplinarian. This guy is an old-school kinda coach. And he has won at least 8 games at Rutgers every year he’s been there, FWIW.
I like to think of myself as a one-man wolfpack.
good to know
that if goodell outlaws the 3 point stance we’ll still be scoring touchdowns!!
they dont have to he is one of our many free agents

He did well with Rutgers but nothing special.

He took a program that was in the deepest recesses of the shithole of NCAA football and turned them into a good team.
I’d say that’s pretty special.

Yes he did
But they I think they regressed in the past couple of years. Thats just my opinion.
by Smith is alegend on Jan 26, 2012 4:52 PM EST up reply actions
You're probably right about their regression...
But he still took shit and turned it into gold.
Now, we’ll probably see over the next few years that the layer of gold will wear off and it was just a pile of shit dipped in gold plating all along, but it still doesn’t take away from what Schiano was able to accomplish during his tenure at Rutgers.

That's really not the point.
He took a program that could barely beat D 1-AA schools and turned them into a legit team…from scratch.

He averaged 6 wins per year from 2001-2011...
That includes the first two years when he was playing with guys he didn’t recruit while building his program. Rutgers only won 6 games twice in the 15 years prior to him being there. If you take out the first two years (to give him time to build a program), the average wins goes up to 7, which means he took a program that couldn’t even win 6 games and over a 9 year period turned them into an above .500 team.
Now, I don’t think he was the best hire, but it’s not that he’s a bad coach…he was able to turn Rutgers into a respectable program again, which should be noteworthy.

Is it possible that all other candidates ultimately decided they just plain did not want to coach in Tampa Bay?

Didnt he have experience as a head coach ?
Maybe it wasn’t the nfl but I would say a head coach for college should be better than someone that was never a head coach at all. Look what Harbaugh did, he came in and took the 49ers to the playoffs his first year.
STICK THE KNIFE IN AND TURN IT!!!!!
One one side we have Harbaugh
On the other we have Butch Davis, Lane Kiffin, Steve Spurrier… the list goes on.
Guys with NFL experience at any level tend to have more success than people with impressive college resumes but little experience at the pro level. Harbaugh is an outlier
Harbough at least had 15 years pro experience as a player
Sciano only has like three years as a db coach and assistant defensive coach

Let’s just say there isn’t a frenzy of merriment occuring like there was when we hired BAMF. Very mixed reactions, and none really of the HECK YEAH! variety.

Winslow wanted Chudzinski to coach the Bucs
In a Thursday interview with Adam Schein and Rich Gannon of Sirius NFL Radio, Winslow mentioned at least three times that he wanted Chudzinski. "I was really hoping for Coach Chudzinski who I was with at Miami and Cleveland," Winslow said. "But, you know, we got another guy in Greg Schiano who I know and heard he’s one of the best coaches people have been around. And he’s got a lot of enthusiasm and [is] real energetic so I’m excited, man."

Great news..
i was scared id wake up and hear they hired chud. I was on the bucs site last night and they had it down to either chud or mike sherman and boy were they on chudz nutzz. They did suspect someone might come out of left field like chip kelley and they were right. Greg schiano good hardnosed coach but not overwhelming success
by CaliforniaPanther on Jan 26, 2012 6:48 PM EST via mobile reply actions
I know they were trying to make a "splash"
But if I were them I would’ve hired Mike Sherman. He’s not a big name and it wouldn’t have been a sexy hire but how often do you get the chance to hire a guy with a near .600 winning percentage?
