Around SBN: Devils Beat Rangers, Head To Stanley Cup Finals

"Amid reports that former Green Bay coach Mike Sherman is a finalist for the Tampa Bay job, the buzz around Mobile is Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski will get a second interview with the Buccaneers.

'We've heard nothing. Hopefully, we'll hear something by the end of the week. We do know, from what I hear, they've brought somebody in for a second interview. So we'll see what happens.' "

Captain getting fired up about his job

Seems like the talk of acquiring a new corner is going beyond the realm of CSR

Either that or he's an avid reader...which would be awesome.

Was the Hitman ever criticized on CSR during his time here?

And if so did he play better the next sunday? Maybe we could poll it somehow.

gotta watch for Chud possibly going to Indy also.

by Rvdbbw on Jan 25, 2012 10:36 AM EST reply actions

I thought there was another guy other than Sherman and not Chud who was getting a second interview

I wish these positions would get filled already.

I read somewhere that Chud was a bad interview..

Let’s hope that trend continues!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

post that link… You will succeed in making my week so much better if I know the NFL hates him and he gets to stay a member of the Panthers

Why is it such a big deal? He's going to be gone within 3 years anyway.

not if he continues to tank interviews

I never saw the article that said he interviewed poorly, but if he sucks at presenting himself then he could be stuck as an OC for a while. Rivera was interviewed like 9 times before he finally got hired as a HC. Not to mention the fact that Chud is fairly young by HC standards.

by hey. on Jan 25, 2012 12:43 PM EST up reply actions

I still don't understand the big deal about Rivera is

He’ll be gone within 10 years anyway, right?

I realize that is different, but its the same Foxy mantra idea, “It is what it is”. Sure, he’ll eventually be gone, but every year he isn’t is a good thing. Especially early on in Newton’s development.

You're right...it's completely different.

I'm glad we agree there.

And I’m glad you didn’t disagree with the rest of what I said. Seems we are on the same page.

by Aleins4u on Jan 25, 2012 4:47 PM EST up reply actions

Nah, not really.

I just don’t see the point in crying about Chud possibly leaving this year. It makes no difference if he leaves now or if he waits til 2013 to leave…he’s going to leave before he really has a chance to install his system. The faster he’s gone the better off the Panthers will be in the long run.

My personal opinion is that way too much noise is being made about it.

That is fair.

I remember someone saying this awhile ago on here, that championship teams will always have a revolving door with coordinators. So Chud might not have a chance to fully install his system here, but if things work out, no OC may ever have a chance to fully install their scheme here. With that in mind, since I hope no one will be able to fully enact their system, I don’t hold to the same idea that the sooner he is gone the better off we’ll be (presumably because then we’ll have a more stable situation.)

Plus, we went from 1-15 to a Superbowl in two years with Delhomme at the helm, certainly we can go from 2-14 to winning a Superbowl in two years with Newton at the helm. So that is the other reason why I’d like Chud to remain next year, because I believe he as our OC gives us the best chance to do that.

by Aleins4u on Jan 25, 2012 6:09 PM EST up reply actions

that's an interesting perspective

I responded with a somewhat snarky, yet optimistic post down below, but reading this i can see your point.

I suppose it matters more who we replace him with. I’ve been operating under the assumption that panthers with chud > panthers without chud.

Still, those three years have potential to be the best in franchise history. I’d just hate to look back and pine for ‘what could’ve been’

by Floods on Jan 25, 2012 6:11 PM EST up reply actions

To be fair, it's not so much about the system he's running...

but more about Cam having some continuity throughout some of the most developmentally important years of his career.

I was listening to the Herd on espn radio

and he was interviewing one of the national media guys who said Chud wasn’t interviewing as well as some of the others. Can’t remember who said it but I do remember that comment.

by John Chilton on Jan 25, 2012 1:14 PM EST up reply actions

On NFL Network

On the coaching news on the bottom it read that Ron Rivera and staff are still curious about Chud he was quoted saying “I’d love to know so we could just go forward”

They can't "take him", but he can leave of his own free will.

If he leaves for Tampa, you can’t hate Tampa.

Of course, you can’t really hate Chud either, but that’s neither here nor there.

You know if that happens

Everybody will hate Tampa (even more). And everybody will hate Chud.

Yep.

It won’t be reasonable, but they’ll do it.

by Aleins4u on Jan 25, 2012 4:49 PM EST up reply actions

He'll look dumb for taking the job that a College coach turned down

I’ll be happy if he takes the job though and then finds out Josh Freeman is not the same QB as Cam

CAM....CAAAAAAAAM

freeman may not be cam

but i’d bet the farm that freeman plus chud = bad news for our defense 2 times a year.

by Floods on Jan 25, 2012 6:13 PM EST up reply actions

Not that he was in consideration for the Colts job

but it looks like one less team needs a coach:

Tampa is the last head coach vacancy. Mike Sherman meeting with Bucs again today. Many in league expect he’ll be the guy there #insideslant

by Scrantsj on Jan 25, 2012 5:24 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry, but after 20 fanshots, fanposts and front pages...

I’m just not seeing Chud as a head coach. I’ve watched the dynamics on the sidelines, I’ve watched the 2008 Browns tape, and I’m just not seeing Chudz in a HC position.

He doesn’t have the “it” factor. Good to great offensive mind… Not a leader of men.

Just my opinion.

That is all
