Hate to do this.. But oh well, Biggest Offseason Move and Draft targets

I hate to do a mock draft or state which FA's we should go after when we have no money to spend, but I was bored on my 6-hour drive back to work...

Star-divide

And I wrote a few notes down,

I hate to say this, cut Shockey.

Cut Hangartner.

Cut Legadu so we can feature a WR corp of: Smitty, LaFell, Gettis, Pilares, and Olsen. Perhaps a rookie addition.

Sign no FA's because a.) We don't need to and b.) We can't afford to.

Just let Beast, TD, Fields, Otah, Fua, & McClain get healthy ( I like a rotation that includes Fields, Shirley, McClain, & Fua)

Our Corner Backs will look good if we draft one in the 1st two rounds, Gamble, Draft Pick, Hogan, Butler, & Capt.

Let Dan Conner go or if there was any way to, trade him although I believe that's impossible with his contract up? Let's keep Senn.

Draft Targets:

1st scenario will be underlined

2nd scenario italicized

First Round, Pick 8/9Jay

David DeCastro--OG, Dre Kirkpatrick--CB, Melvin Ingram--OLB/DE, Jonathan Martin--OT, Michael Brockers--DT/DE, or Devon Still--DT

Second Round, Pick 40

Jayron Hosley--CB, D'onta Poe--DT, Sean Spence--OLB, Zach Brown--OLB, LaVonte David--OLB, Jared Crick--DT, , or Janoris Jenkins--CB

Fourth Round, Pick 104

LaDarius Green--TE, Jarius Wright--WR, Jeff Fuller--WR, Joe Adams--WR,

Fifth Round

Jarius Wright--WR or Joe Adams--WR or Vinny Curry--DE

Sixth Round

Draft THE BEST KICKER available, and then next year in the 5th or 6th take LaTech's Ryan Allen, he's the only game-changing punter I can remember ever watching at the college level. We get the top kicker this year and then get the top punter next year, our Special Teams are set for years to come at a drastically cheaper price than OlinDoh & Baker.

Well that's my thoughts for the off-season/draft, hope it was mildly imformative, this will be last post in regards to the draft until after the draft.

Shockely, Legadu, and Hangartner

are free agents, so no need to cut them. Thomas D should be on the cut list but brought back on a veteran minimum deal.

Hangartner is under contract for another year

TD will get a new restructured deal

I doubt we need to waste a draft pick on a kicker

From what I know, a decent kicker with a strong leg can be had as an undrafted free agent. The combine and pro days might change that but I doubt we need to draft a kicker.

This year doesnt have any good kickers

i think we are stuck with Mare for another year. We can get a Punter though. this draft has 2 good punters and we can save 1.5 mil by cutting Baker

That is why I said undrafted

Georgia’s Blair Walsh is a good kicker. I don’t know what happened to him this past year, but he under achieved. I think his ranking in this year’s draft class is 292….so chances are he will be an UDFA and signed to a practice squad. That being said, he cannot be any worse than Mare and unlike the other kicker “competing” with him, Walsh has plenty of experience.

Do we really want a kicker

Known more for peeing on the sidelines than for his actual kicking ability?

by JDeLong42 on Jan 24, 2012 9:52 PM EST up reply actions

I know he was pretty good

I just thought it was funny that he’s known more for urinating than kicking

Fields?

Ron Fields? The guy who hasn’t been on the team since week 8?

He probably means Frank Kearse.

My fault, I was thinking of the FA we signed that tore his biceps

Ron Edwards, much apologies, ha… I was high when thinking up writing this. Those 6 hour drives will get yaaa

by Matt Wats on Jan 23, 2012 11:23 PM EST up reply actions

Okay that makes sense then

So many Rons. Easy to get them confused.

by JDeLong42 on Jan 23, 2012 11:45 PM EST up reply actions

Wow, my bad. LOL,

Ron Edwards should’ve been the obvious alternate answer.

Just let Otah get healthy

The annual refrain, but after 29 games played in 4 years, and only 4 in the last 2 years, it’s time to face the fact that it ain’t going to happpen.

And TD, after 3 ACL tears in 2 years, is highly unlikely to ever return.

by Deacon Dog on Jan 24, 2012 8:20 AM EST reply actions

Otah could have played this year

he was only put on IR so he could get to 100% (he was hovering around 75%)

TD will return, i dont care if you like it, it will happen. He will get a restructured contract with little to no guaranteed money and not a large base salary. TD doesnt care about the money, he wants to play, and he wants to play here. Even if he can’t get back to 100% he is still very good. even if he can only get his 40 to a 4.5 that is still very fast for a LB, he is also very strong and instinctual, those qualities wont change or diminish. 80% of old TD is still better than most, especially since him returning wont be at high cost.

Why wouldn't I like it

…if TD returned? Love the guy and not doubting his want-to, but the list of players who have successfully returned from 3 major surgeries on the same knee in 2 years has got to be very short. I can’t think of any.

by Deacon Dog on Jan 24, 2012 4:46 PM EST up reply actions

so? medical improvements are exponential

His situation is extremely rare, thats why people coming back from his situation is rare. Also a lot of people would give up while TD works his butt off.
Delhomme was the first QB to come back from Tommy John surgery.

I'm not sure any of the people you list will be there with the 40th pick.

Maybe Crick and David.

I like to think of myself as a one-man wolfpack.

by ERL on Jan 24, 2012 10:56 AM EST reply actions

Spence and David are the only ones i see being available

And i’m one of the ones not on the Spence band wagon. we already have enough undersized LBs. all Spence is is another Senn. If we get an LB it should be someone tall and athletic. If Zack Brown is available when we are picking in the 2nd (very doubtful) than i would not hesitate and snatch him up immediately

I would play Spence as a box safety.
