Cam to Join Elite Company
With Eli Manning now making a return trip to the Super Bowl, Cam Newton will get his very first Pro Bowl of his career during this, his rookie year. With most analysts all-but proclaiming Newton as the Offensive ROY, Newton will become only the 3rd player (and the only Quarterback) in NFL history to win both awards in the same year, joining Marshall Faulk and Adrian Peterson.
It's just one more notch for the record books. It'll be a bit longer before he can take a crack at some of the career-achievement records, but how long do you think some of those will take? Like Michael Vick's current 5,216 career rushing yards or maybe even Tom Brady's single season TD record of 50 in a year.
After the jump, I'll give a quick list of all the NFL records he's broken.
Records
- Most passing yards by a quarterback in debut game (422)
- Most passing yards by a quarterback in first two games (854)
- Most passing yards by a rookie in a game, period (432)
- Most passing yards by a rookie in a season (4,051)
- Most rushing touchdowns in single season by a quarterback (14)
- Most total touchdowns by a rookie NFL player: 35 (21 pass, 14 rush)
- Fastest player to throw for 1,000 yards (First 3 games)
- Tied for most games with a passing and rushing touchdown (8)
- Tied for most consecutive games with 400+ yards passing (2)
NFL Firsts
- First quarterback to pass for more than 400 yards in first career start
- First quarterback to pass for more than 400 yards in first two career starts
- First rookie to pass for more than 400 yards in back to back games
- First player in NFL history with 4,000+ pass yards and 10+ rush TDs in a season
- First player in NFL history with 4,000+ pass yards and 500+ rush yards in a season
- First player in NFL history with at least five rushing touchdowns and five passing touchdowns in his first five games
- First rookie in NFL history to throw for 10 touchdowns and run for 10 touchdowns in a season
Carolina Panthers Franchise Records
- Rookie QB records: most completions (310), yards (4,051), and passing touchdowns (21) and highest completion percentage (60%) and passer rating (84.5)
- Highest rushing YPA (5.60)
- Longest offensive scoring play (91 yards to Brandon LaFell)

Come on ace, do you honestly think I would post something irrelevant on the front page? Well, at least not without explicitly stating it’s OT in the title?

I love it too…I, I mean I’m often dragged in there by the testes.

It should be a federal law that all Ulta (or any other make-up/perfume) stores are located directly beside either a sporting goods store, sports bar (preferably one with boobies), or book store.

It would be awesome.
Wife: Honey, I want to go to Ulta.
[Note: For those of you who aren’t married, what this really means is: Honey, we’re going to Ulta whether you like it or not so you might as well deal with it. I’ll be ready to go in 3 hours even though I’m telling you it will only be 15 minutes. You’re going to hate life for the next 6 hours, and you’re going to want a divorce before we get home. Even though I should care, I don’t, so stop being a crybaby and get over it.]
Husband: Okay, as long as it’s the one on Oak…Big Juggz Bar and Grill has the best wings in town, and I figure I could down a couple beers and some wings while you spend all the time you want in Ulta.

Just wanted to say congrats on Cam.

Keep it up.

Congrats on the return to the Super Bowl. Eli had a great year, and I love watching Victor Cruz and that defensive line.

You have to understand this, Limey...
We had to watch that QB and that coach rip our heart out and feed it to us.
I like to think of myself as a one-man wolfpack.
oh i understand
I watched the game with on friend who was a pats fan and felt that sickening twist in my stomach when kasay kicked the KO out of bounds… I too am bitter, but your can’t knock excellence and brady is about as excellent as you can get. I certainly don’t like the patriots but eli’s got one of those faces… I’m not a violent man but something about him makes me wanna clock him in the jaw (and then run away very quickly)

Its not just that, its finding out about Spygate and realizing there's a very good chance it extended all the way back to our SB
Their offense has not been able to shred top tier defenses like the one we had that year ever since Belicheat got caught recording their signals.
Also, see Tuck Rule victory. Also, see Brady Rule implemented. Also, see very minimal repercussions for their cheating so as to not tarnish the SB title with asterisks.
yeah
The nfl should have come down a lot harder. Don’t understand how belicheat didn’t get fired, its like the pats didn’t give a shit that their reputation was in tatters

I love the fact that Cam made the PB.
I only question whether or not he deserves to be there over Stafford.
Maybe, maybe not.
Cam’s YPA was higher. Meaning you give him the same number of attempts as Stafford and he would have thrown for more yards. I’ll save you the bit about Stafford playing indoors, and Cam’s rushing statistics.
I like to think of myself as a one-man wolfpack.
The answer is no.
Stafford should have been there.
41 total TDs 16 INTs vs 35 total TDs, 17 INTs.
I don’t even like the Lions, but Stafford was robbed.
by Philipkcks on Jan 23, 2012 1:12 PM EST up reply actions 2 recs
Panthers offense put up almost 400 more total yards than the Lions.
Not ‘trying to prove’ anything. Just making comparisons.
I like to think of myself as a one-man wolfpack.
Panthers offense and Lions offense =/= Stafford and Newton.
Pro Bowl slots are individual honors not team honors.
(even if that were not the case, the Lions scored more than 4 more points a game than we did).
Again, not trying to accomplish anything here, just not leaving any stone unturned.
I like to think of myself as a one-man wolfpack.
Try that again and include rushing TD's.

he deserves it more than Stafford
Remember that the Pro Bowl is a money maker. So it makes more sense for the more popular guy to go. If you wanna look at stats, look at how many times Elway and Aikman made the Pro Bowl and had subpar seasons. Stafford and CAM both deserved it, but CAM puts on a better show.

so...
Does going as an alternative actually count as going to the pro bowl? Its not really the same as getting selected though is it?
Save us Pilares
by LimeyPanther on Jan 23, 2012 1:31 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Actually there is no difference.
It does count towards that player’s resume, regardless. Eli will still be considered a pro bowler as well. So by the time the game starts there could be 100 guys who are considered 2012 Pro Bowl participants, depending on how many more fail physicals, pretend to be hurt, or miss it due to being in the SB.
I like to think of myself as a one-man wolfpack.
thats awesome
Yes stafford deserved recognition for his play but nobody can take this away from cam, he’s already become the heart of this offence

An argument can be made for Romo
35 TD, 17 INTs 2 lost fumbles, vs 31 TDs, 10 INTs, 3 lost fumbles.
The passing yards were pretty close, rushing yards, Cam won, of course.
Romo threw for an 8.0 average, Newton threw for a 7.8 average.
I wouldn’t have had a problem if Romo were selected over Cam this season.
I think Manning, Newton, and Romo were all roughly comparable this season, but that Stafford played better than all three.
It's a shame that Stafford didn't get in. He should definitely be in the Pro Bowl.

There's a passage I got memorized. Ezekiel 25:17.

“The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon them.”
