You Make the Call! Predicting this week's NFC and AFC Championship Games
After two weeks of going 2-2 in playoff picking, it's becoming obvious that I have as good of a chance doing the old coin flip thing. So I'll keep it brief this week, to avoid going on and on about how the Saints and Packers will.....well, yeah, let's just forget about last week. At least I kinda saw the Giants game turning out that way. But close doesn't count. Congrats to those who went 3-1 in this post last week; again we had noone pick 4-0 in this column.
So I'll keep it short and sweet this week.
Until John Harbaugh and Joe Flacco prove they can win the big game and get to the Super Bowl, I'll go with the Tom Brady and Bill Belichick who have done it a few times. The Patriots defense has improved; we will see if they can keep the Ravens scoring limited just enough to win a shootout.
Patriots 31 Ravens 23
Giants vs. 49ers
Jim Harbaugh is a good coach. He's done an unbelievable job this year. Tom Coughlin is also a good coach, and has won a Super Bowl. I see two good defenses, and one good QB. I'm picking this game because Eli Manning is proven in big games, even on the road in hostile environs, and Alex Smith might not even be a starting QB in a couple of years. The Giants pressure from the Defensive Line will cause Smith to have a bad game.
Giants 17 49ers 16
That's how I see it! How about you Panther fans? You make the call...
Let's hear it!!

Well...
I’m going the opposite tack completely.
Ravens 35, Patriots 31
The Ravens defense will keep them in this game, and Flacco will get one step closer to being Trent Dilfer 2.0. The Patriots decimated the Broncos, sure, but I can’t get over the fact that having McDaniels was a key advantage for the Pats in that game. Even Flacco should be able to work over the Patriots defense.
49ers 28, Giants 27
Like the 49ers game against the Saints last week, it’s going to be a close one — closer score-wise than last week, but also close as in coming down to the final moments of the game. The Giants will give Smith some headaches, but I think he’ll pull off another comeback in the 4th quarter to take San Francisco back to the Superbowl.
So yeah, I’m predicting the Harbaugh Bowl, pretty much.
I think McDaniel's presence on the Patriots has been overstated
It’s not like he knows some super secret formula to beat Tim Tebow. There really aren’t any secrets in the NFL.
Perhaps
But after the frenzy that went on when Jim Tressel (who’s apparently rumored to be in contention for the Colts’ HC position now) became a consultant for Indy in the wake of being fired from Ohio State and then punished by the NCAA… I dunno.
Granted, McDaniels’ case is a bit different. But the fact remains, he was part of another football team’s staff during the regular season. To be let go, and then allowed to join the Patriots staff with them in the playoffs? Especially with the insights (just generally speaking) that he could possibly give them on the Broncos? I’m honestly amazed the NFL passed off on that, or at least didn’t look askance at it, because the initial thought is that with his time as the Broncos HC, he could provide a lot of intelligence on the inner workings of the franchise.
The insights part is what I what I'm talking about
What does Josh McDaniels know about the Broncos that the entire NFL hasn’t already figured via scouting?
My picks
Ravens 24 Patriots 21
The Patriots only played two playoff teams that weren’t the Broncos. They lost both. They haven’t proven they can beat a legitimate team.
49ers 23 Giants 14
I like the underdogs this week
49ers over Giants
Ravens over Patriots

give the nfc game 2.5 more tds,
and i think you nailed it, bubba! happy watching, hope you didn’t bet the kid’s tuition on that under/over, hehe
3-1 last week and 6-2 overall (missed Denver in wildcard and SanFran last week)
I like the Giants and the Patriots advancing to the big game with the Giants taking the prize.
I think a big physical defense may be what it takes to stop New England.
