Is it easier to fix a Bad Offense or a Bad Defense?
This question does not pertain exclusively to the Panthers, yet it is more of an ideological opinion.

It depends on wheter you have the pieces in order to fix either of those two elements.
Although there was uncertainty and a feeling of the unknown with the Panthers, they had the pieces that it took to get this offense to be top 5 in the league(coach included).
Furthermore the Texans and the 49ers had the pieces(coach included) to get them to be top 5 defenses in the league as well.
Therefor, in my opinion it depends on the whether you have the tools in order to fix either the offense or defense. The quality of players and coaches determine how rapidly either parts can be successful.

Flip a coin
Look at how good our offense became under Chud with a few choice acquisitions. Look how good the Texans’ defense became under Phillips with a few choice acquisitions.

You don't even have to look outside the team history.
We’ve had defensive turnarounds in 2002 when we went from 31st to 2nd I believe, then offensive this year when we went 32nd to 5th. Given Rivera’s history I fully expect a defensive turnaround this year, but we need to make sure we keep our offense the same.

Offense
Because the league has made it so if you have a good QB you can have a good team. If you don’t have a good QB then you will need to actually build a good team from top to bottom.
Look at the juxtaposition of the Colts and 49ers. One player made the Colts, 30+ players make the 49ers.

I know right...

I may not always be right, but even a blind nut finds a squirrel every once in a while.
Just to play devils advocate here.
but how easy is it to actually find that good quarterback? For that reason i say defense, it just took one offseason for the Texans turnaround, along with ours in 02.

That's a fair point.
At present there are probably more ‘franchise’ QBs than great defenses, so it must be feasible.
