Jake Ready To Call It A Day
Dear JR,
Bring the Carolina Cajun home. 1-day deal. And give a spot in the Ring of Honor to the most stand-up, classy, and lovable (if not frustrating) guys ever to wear a Panthers uniform.
Signed,
Charlotte

1 day deal
Retire that man a Panther (Do the same if Kasey retires)
by rscott94 on Jan 16, 2012 5:30 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Absolutely... he's a Panther and should retire as such.
So much to be done, and so few people willing to do it for me.
I love Delhomme about as much as someone can love an athlete
Bring him home and let him retire a Panther, as he should.

One thing to keep in mind...
We have to also realize that Jake would also want to come here on a one day deal and retire, that it’s not only up to JR to make this happen. I’m not saying that Jake doesn’t want to do it, but if it doesn’t happen it may not be 100% JR’s fault.

This is true...
But I don’t see Jake turning down the opportunity if it were given. Based on his comments to Cam after the Texans win, he still is a Panther at heart.

Good for CAM
I think it would be good for CAM. He may be more talented than Jake, but Jake got results. 2009 was his first season with a losing record. I think if CAM sees the love and respect we got for Jake, he’ll understand the value of leadership, class and results a little better than he does now. There are no problems with how CAM does it now, but Jake is a guy all young folks could learn from.
Jake went 7-9 in 2004
But Jake can ONLY be a positive influence on Cam.
I really loved that photo of them after the game in Houston
I would love to get a copy so I can frame it and hang it on my wall.

Nice to know that his last play was a touchdown, good for him

I was going to post the same thing.
Very awesome.

that is awesome
on a sad note, wasn’t Favre’s last play an interception?
I believe so...and I think his first play was an interception too.
But I could be wrong on that.

I know
A lot of us were down on him before he left, and with good reason, but he’s certainly deserves to retire and be remembered as a Panther. He was a huge part of what were some of our best and most heart breaking moments and did it all with dignity and class.

I’d love to see Jake retire as a Panther and be given a spot on the ring of honor. Our Panthers are a still a young franchise, but old enough now to have a since of history. I’ll remember Jake more for his time with the “Cardiac Cats” and his amazing performance in the Super Bowl rather than the Cardinals debacle and the following season’s train wreck. The passage of time has a way of allowing us to focus more on the good rather than the bad, and we certainly had a lot of good times with #17.

Still love the guy!
And will always be a Panther to me, no matter what! I actually though the Texans should have given Jake more of a shot at starting in the playoffs. I think he could have led the Texans past the Ravens because he looked pretty sharp in week 17. Either way, he needs to retire a panther. I still wear my Delhomme jersey with pride and one day I’ll put it in a display case so when people ask why it’s being displayed I’ll say, “Delhomme was the first QB to ever lead us to a Super Bowl!” And what a hell of a game that Super Bowl was…

Hell I say trade Clausen and bring back Jake Delhomme. He could do wonders for both Cam Newton and Derek Anderson. Let’s be honest here, yes he had a horrible debacle his last couple years, but before that, if my team would need a Touchdown to win a game in the final minutes, I would take Delhomme, bar none. How many times did he win a game for us? He was a phenomenal fourth quarter player (kinda like Tebow….it’s foxball) until he got his arm injured. He came back from it, yes…..but he had lost the power in his arm, so all of a sudden his power fell off, then that effected his accuracy. Next thing you know, tosses that usually would have gone for a 30 yard gain were all of a sudden under-throwing the target and being picked off. He could teach Cam to have a short memory after a bad play though. How many times did Delhomme throw a pick just to come back out and make a big play?

I love Jake
but it would be too touchy of a situation and would end up being a locker room distraction. It would be like Favre going back to Greenbay
Not if he is indeed retiring and Chud goes to another. Shula promoted to OC so make Jake Delhomme the quarterbacks coach.

I really don't think the Favre/Green Bay situation is in the same category.
Cam is our starting quarterback; there’s no debate about that whatsoever. The only controversy (if you even want to call it that) would be deciding who backs him up.

You know what would be nice?
Bring back the 03 team, or at least as much of it as can be found, and put the team on the field one last time for a scrimmage. Make it a huge event at Bank of America Stadium. Charge like 15$’s a ticket. Let people meet current, past, and future Panthers. Let em throw the ball around and just chat and hang out. Someone can sponsor for hot dogs, food and drinks.
And at the end of the day Jake Delhomme can do his retirement speech surrounded by his friends and fans. Steve Smith at his right hand, Moose at his left. His original offensive line anchoring his front, protecting him from the pathetic excuse we have for the Press. It’ll be like the changing of the guard.
No matter how bad Delhomme may have been, no matter how he may have dissappointed us, he was still our guy. Our ORIGINAL franchise QB. The one with the Bojangles chicken. And something about him wants me to make his retirement something worthy of memory.

Also, no one seems to WANT to remember Mark Fields and the force he was when on the field.

This needs to happen.
Delhomme helped lead the Panthers to the highest heights this franchise has ever seen. PANTHER4LIFE! ’Nuff said.

Jake can still play.
He almost won a game for the Texans this year after TJ Yates got hurt. He led a 2 minute drill scoring drive and threw a touchdown that would have tied the game with the extra point. But since it was the last game of the year they went for two points so that they would either win or lose the game and they didn’t have to risk an injury in OT.
The damn center snapped the ball over Jake’s head.
