I'll be honest...

I can tolerate Brady getting deep into the playoffs. The thought of Tebow doing it makes me disgusted.

New. England. Patriots.

That alone should piss you off.

IMO the Divisional Playoff round is the best weekend of the NFL season

After missing the Denver win and going 3-1 last week, I’m going with the Saints over the Niners and Patriots over Denver…. although I’ll be rooting for another Tebow odds defying win.

whats the point in rooting against tebow

The fact that he is even in the second round of the playoffs pretty much seals the fact that he will be talked about just as before. no matter how bad he does. Personally I’m rooting for the broncos. Its easy to like Tebow, just don’t watch espn. More importantly its anti-pantherian to root for the Pats. Go Broncos

Herm Edwards makes me sick.. He said the other day that if you hate Tebow you lack integrity and therefore you just hate people with integrity! Herm has lost all respect.

by PantherTrain on Jan 14, 2012 2:30 PM EST reply actions

If you hate Tim Tebow the person

Then you are either confused or Herm might be right. Tebow hasn’t done anything wrong. I hate the excessive media coverage and Tebowmania, not Tebow himself.

by JDeLong42 on Jan 14, 2012 2:32 PM EST up reply actions

Ok, so those that hate Tom Brady get a free pass? Tom Brady has done nothing wrong but yet when people hate him their integrity is not in question. Oh, thats right.. Tom Brady doesnt feed 3rd world countries and pray in public so he is right up there with Charles Manson. Give me a break, Herm Edwards and the rest of the clowns at TebowSPN are the reason he is hated.

by PantherTrain on Jan 14, 2012 2:36 PM EST up reply actions

None of those were really legitimate reasons to hate him

Get tired of him? Yes. Hate him? No. The reasons given were all based on what fans and the media do, not Tim Tebow. The only reasons given directly related to Tebow were being a bad QB, and if you hate a person for being a bad football player, you’re really kind of shallow. The other was his religion. If you hate someone because of their religion then you’re being intolerant.

by JDeLong42 on Jan 14, 2012 2:53 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

I can think of plenty...

A lot of them stem from social/political roots as well as my own inherent distastes, but they’re still reasons.

by aceofsween on Jan 14, 2012 2:57 PM EST up reply actions

I'm not saying that some people don't have some reason to hate him.

I was just wondering if PT really had any or if he was just hating Tebowmania and projecting it onto Tebow the person as well.

by Philipkcks on Jan 14, 2012 2:59 PM EST up reply actions

Better question...

Why are we so worried?

Why do people rush so quickly to defend him?

That stuff does make me sick. Cam went through just as much and there were far fewer people telling everyone to back off.

by aceofsween on Jan 14, 2012 3:01 PM EST up reply actions

Because Tom Brady comes across as being very smug and arrogant

It’s pretty understandable why he’s disliked by a lot of people.

by JDeLong42 on Jan 14, 2012 2:47 PM EST up reply actions

How does he come across as smug and arrogant.. Big mansion? Hot girlfriend.. Hes a NFL superstar for god sakes.. Hes suppose to live that way

by PantherTrain on Jan 14, 2012 2:48 PM EST up reply actions

brady started out refusing to do commercials

unless his entire O-Line was in them as well. Somewhere along the line that went out the window and he now, mostly by comparison to his own earlier standards, looks to be more self centered.

At least that’s how i see it.

by Floods on Jan 14, 2012 2:50 PM EST up reply actions

By the way he talks

I can’t go back and dig up specific examples, but the overall impression he gives when he talks is one of arrogance.

by JDeLong42 on Jan 14, 2012 2:55 PM EST up reply actions

See, this kinda blanket statement irks me...

I do not like Tebow. Hate may be too strong a word, but there is not a single thing about him that I like. And I’m not required to like him either. Granted, my perspective on this is a lot different than most other people’s so I can understand why others don’t feel the same way, but I’m certainly not required to like the guy.

by aceofsween on Jan 14, 2012 2:55 PM EST up reply actions

I would agree that you have no reason to like him

but not liking him and hating him are two very different things.

by Philipkcks on Jan 14, 2012 2:57 PM EST up reply actions

It depends on how you classify "hate"

Under this general context, I can see a lot of people would say I “hate” Tebow. I wouldn’t really call it that. I do however hate some of the organizations he associates himself with.

by aceofsween on Jan 14, 2012 2:59 PM EST up reply actions

Well, as a football fan

I can see hating Brady if I’m a Colts fan.
Because he destroyed them so many times in the playoffs.

Tebow is basically harmless, if his team wins it’s probably not because he beat you.

by Philipkcks on Jan 14, 2012 3:02 PM EST up reply actions

I agree, my statement was too general

I’m trying to say he gives people little reason to HATE him as a person. Most of the hate he receives is brought on my the media and Tebowmania. I don’t mean to say it’s impossible to dislike him as a person (I personally am not a huge fan of how outwardly religious he is), but it’s hard to see what he does that justifies him being hated like a villain.

by JDeLong42 on Jan 14, 2012 2:58 PM EST up reply actions

And I'm offering a counter-example

One that isn’t brought on by the media or anything.

Of course it probably goes without saying that I do hate all the coverage of him.

by aceofsween on Jan 14, 2012 3:00 PM EST up reply actions

It's hard for me to find reason to hate him as a person

So understand why I may disagree with you. If you hate organizations he associates himself with, that’s probably a good reason to dislike him. I apologize for making too broad of a statement.

by JDeLong42 on Jan 14, 2012 3:10 PM EST up reply actions

Didn't offend me any...

It’s a charged topic to say the least. A lot of the discrimination that I face on a daily basis can be dropped directly at the feet of the organizations for which he is an icon.

by aceofsween on Jan 14, 2012 11:19 PM EST up reply actions

I don't hate Tebow

I just have no respect for those who glorify a man whose stats are sub par at best. Tebow is a good guy but enough is enough. There are seven other QBs who deserve to be talked about. C’mon man!

Right because “stats dont matter” Thats just like saying “grades dont matter” when in school. Thats like someone saying “yes my kid got straight Fs, but he was a true leader in the classroom and the kids really respected him!” stats do matter! They matter a whole lot actually.

Thats why I also hate the saying “well such and such team is better than their record” no they arent! We went 6-10 because we where a 6-10 quality team! No excuses

Or the fact that Tebow played for 11 games rather than 15.

by Philipkcks on Jan 14, 2012 2:56 PM EST up reply actions

Therefore it's excellent for a QB.

"Nah, you look like Elijah Wood." - danmerqury

by OldhamA on Jan 14, 2012 2:58 PM EST up reply actions

i suppose i should specify

that it’s rather the lack of impressive passing stats that are the problem.

Of course good rushing doesn’t make Newton less of a QB, neither does it Tebow. The difference being that rushing is the bonus for Newton. With Tebow the main draw is the running and the bonus is the passing. Which again, is really good for a running back, not so much for a QB.

I don’t hate Tebow, I just want to keep his accomplishments in perspective. He is an excellent runner, and a mediocre passer.

by Floods on Jan 14, 2012 3:03 PM EST up reply actions

I would say Tebow is an average QB.

I think his actual passing is below average, but I think his rushing skills push him to total as an average QB.

Nothing amazing, but not someone who will lose games for you very often either.

by Philipkcks on Jan 14, 2012 3:19 PM EST up reply actions

He's a non-prototypical QB for sure

His passing is actually quite bad. Many of his highlights show some of the wobbliest passes I’ve ever seen connect. His ability to scramble and extend the play, and his threat to run at any time which freezes either a line backer or a safety, cover for his lack of passing skill. This also contributes to his ‘clutch gene’ as I’ve heard it called. When the defense is tired in the last part of the game and they know they have to make a stop to win, Tebow makes them second guess themselves or out coach themselves (Steelers). Pretty soon that will wear off as teams will begin to plan for ‘Tebow Time’ and they won’t be second guessing themselves on the field.

by Floods on Jan 14, 2012 3:28 PM EST up reply actions

I'm actually mocking with the Broncos on t'Huddle.

I’m going to add spread option weapons for Tebow to use – ‘cos if I was in charge I’d go full bore with it. It’s the only thing he’s good at.

"Nah, you look like Elijah Wood." - danmerqury

by OldhamA on Jan 14, 2012 3:38 PM EST up reply actions

Actually, that IS a lie.

Over the 3 years of Russells career, he ended with 18 passing TDs, 1 rushing TD, and 23 INTs. Passing rating of 65ish.
Tebow in 2 seasons has passed for 17 TDs, rushed for 12 TDs, and had 9 INTs.
Passer rating of 75ish.

While Tebow isn’t even in the same category as Newton, he’s also not nearly in the same category as Russell.

by Philipkcks on Jan 14, 2012 2:45 PM EST up reply actions

by PantherTrain on Jan 14, 2012 2:47 PM EST up reply actions

I really hope the Broncos lose

Tebowmania is out of control. I was watching the Nuggets and Heat last night and they still found the time to talk about Tebow a few times. Every time the Nuggets made a play, instead of showing the player who made said play, they would just pan over to a random fan wearing a Tebow jersey. Drives me crazy.

The Patriots had an 18 minute advantage in time of possession by the end of that game. The defense had every reason to be tired. It’s hard to stop that good of an offense while being on the field for almost 40 minutes.

My thoughts regarding Tebow.

I am sure Tim Tebow is a good person. He has never done anything negative in the public eye and that is great. The problem with this whole situation is the media. ESPN is the worst their whole sportscasters are walking ass wipes the whole bunch of them can not come up with other story lines period. They just take one story they have hyped up and run it in the ground. The sad part of this it really has nothing to do with Tebow himself. The media is setting up this young man so high that the fall from it when reality sets in will break him. What Tebow needs to do is come out and say that he is flattered by all of the attention but this is not who he is. That he just wants the attention to be focused on his team not just him. This is going to end badly for all parties envolved. Seen this trainwreck a miilion times before with ESPN.

P.S. Trey Wingo is a DOUCHE!

FOX is not as bad as ESPN.

The FOX guys give equal coverage of all teams remaining during the pregame. Just watching them talk to about Denver then just as much about there opponent New England. ESPN thinks there is no other teams playing it’s Tebow by himself beating 11 defenders on the other side of the ball that is what makes me sick. I can’t wait till Denver get’s embaressed and Tom Jackson is so quiet on set looking like somebody told him they ran over his dog.

This is completely off topic.. But does anyone know when the new NFL uniforms will be introduced and we can see the final product?

by PantherTrain on Jan 14, 2012 4:00 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I don't think there's any guarantee that anything will change

I know Nike is taking over, but that does not necessarily mean teams will be changing their uniforms. (If I’m not mistaken)

by JDeLong42 on Jan 14, 2012 4:06 PM EST up reply actions

it's possible that Reebok owns rights to the other designs

Nike might be legally required to come up with their own uniforms.

I hope nothing changes

I would rather have the same Panthers uniforms than have the Panthers come out with something looking like those hideous Maryland uni’s.

by ACA Jester on Jan 14, 2012 4:10 PM EST up reply actions

Knowing the way the NFL is now

I doubt they’d let Nike come out with anything crazy. I definitely wouldn’t mind an updated look for the Panthers.

As for your comment above, I did think about Reebok owning the rights to the designs. But Reebok hasn’t been the uniform provider forever, and a lot of teams haven’t changed with previous company switches.

by JDeLong42 on Jan 14, 2012 4:16 PM EST up reply actions

Jersey's

are Licensed NFL products and can only be made with strict permission of the NFL, they belong to the teams

by Whitt2k1 on Jan 14, 2012 7:57 PM EST up reply actions

I'm pretty sure you're correct.

I can’t wait til this new uniform shit is over so people will shut up about it. I won’t be surprised in the least if the only thing changed is the reebok logo becomes a nike swoosh.

I really think a lot of our secondary problems had to do with a clashing philosophy between the old guard (Meeks) and new guard (McVera)

Meek’s defensive approach was about playing with a lead and creating turnovers in zone coverage. McVera was about agressive defense and winning man to man battles. I think we’ll see improvement next year even if there isn’t a significant personnel change in the secondary.

Deangelo was pulled by his hair which isn't considered a horse-collar

I’m pretty sure that rule still exists in the pocket but it is unlikely to occur there given that it is less likely to be pulled down from behind while in the pocket because most of the def players are still in front of you.

That or the refs said it was a horse collar but couldn’t call it. I am not positive but I seem to recall Williams mentioning it.

So what are guys like Rodgers and Brady? Lazy slobs who eat donuts all day. I hate when people say " hes not that good but I admire his hard work" Its his job to work hard, why should he get recognition for that? What does he get paid millions to do? Im sick and tired of hearing all week about a mediocre QB that cant even complete 50% of his passes.. Yes Tom Brady might be smug and arrogant but atleast its rightfully so. If by “unconventional” you mean “unable to complete passes” then you have an odd definition.

Whenever he got sacked

They still found ways to compliment him. “Great job by Tebow to hold on to the ball” after running around in the pocket for ten seconds and getting sacked.

Hi, my name is Bill Belichick and I am quite proud to say that...

I am a better than you. Sure, I cheated, but it sure was fun flaunting my arrogance while doing it. I’m happy to say that my protege’, Tom Terrific, has an affinity for imitating me and I take joy in knowing that he is an extension of my pompous self on the field. We are very glad that we could assist in silencing this underling. If you thought Tebowmania was bad, just wait to you hear the media gush and fawn over Tom and I over the next few weeks. We look forward to winning another Super Bowl in the most degrading way possible and we know that you’ll enjoy the show because we are the greatest thing that ever happened to the NFL.

You mean sports media will provide coverage

to a QB who just threw 6 TD’s in a playoff game instead of a guy that went 9-26 for <150 yards? What is wrong with the world, lol.

Personally I’d like to thank my lord and savior Jesus Christ for not having to hear that same line between the heavy breathing of Tebus during post game press conferences. We get it, you’re Christian. Stop shoving it down everyone’s throat.

I donate $1 to homeless pets everytime I go to Petsmart but I don’t brag about it every chance I get. He could do his thanking before getting up in front of cameras, for that reason I find it a bit self-serving.

He's an evangelical...

They believe it is their duty to spread the “good word.”

For the record, Tebow has never come out and said,

“Repent of your sins if you want to be saved”. He is only deflecting attention away from himself to give credit to his teammates and the Lord.

What's so wrong with someone who is selfless enough...

to deflect attention away from himself. That is all Tebow is doing when he is in front of the cameras. If you want to praise people for their stats alone, go ahead, but I will always factor in the character of those same people in determining whether or not I am their fan.

Didn't say anything about him praising his teammates.

He should do that and most players do. His constant insistance of making sure everyone is aware of his beliefs is not selfless though and it’s not deflecting any attention away from himself it’s drawing it to him.

You know it, I know and he certainly knows it. That’s why everything is a public display with him. There is no other reason why such an average at times to inept QB would garner so much attention.

What a great day!

First the run-the-score-up-to-set-all-kind-of-individual-records Saints get eliminated (I told you Karma was coming for all that celebrating) … and then we see the end of Tebowtime.

I’ll go on early record as predicting the Broncos win fewer games next year than they did this one. Nobody in the league is kicking themselves right now, as hard a the Steelers are. Any self-respecting DC now has the blueprint on how to shut down the Teboption.

We at fox sports. And I hope new Orleans lose. If we can’t win it then nobody In our division should win it#yeaimhating
Congrats to them 49ers glad y’all beat them Saints #yeaimhating

LOL…that’s right. If the Panthers ain’t winning the big one in our division than nobody can! Get ready for the Panthers next year NFC South.

So much for that vaunted Denver D.

Watching the highlights (cos I went to bed very early on - the writing was on the wall), that was a typical John Fox game.

He had no idea how to get pressure on Brady or cover Gronk. Ball game.
