I'm about to talk dirty to you. I'm going to put together a hypothetical offseason. I'm going to try to keep it (somewhat) realistic. Here we go.
Roster Cuts:
Baker had a terrible year and to add on to it he is due 1.5 mil next season. It's time to move on with someone younger, cheaper, and better
TE Ben Hartsock
Nothing against Hartsock, but he just isnt needed and his 840,000 salary could be better used elsewhere
We save 200,000 by cutting him but this isn't a financial move and I don't think that I need to explain why
CB Josh Thomas
half a mil is too much for a guy that doesnt see the field.
DE Eric Norwood
I was interested to see what Rivera planned to do with him but it seems like not much. Nothing personal but we can get someone cheaper that better fits our system
OT LEE Ziemba
Roster/Cap casualty, saves $400,000
Total Savings: $4,000,000
Now that the ugly part is done lets have some fun
Free Agent Signings:
I'm starting it with a Shocker! He paired well with Olsen and helps our offense on several fronts. Plus it is good to have a high energy guy like him around
He isn't going to be offered a whole lot of money after coming off of a ACL injury and could be our starter opposite of Gamble
OLB Manny Lawson
Lawson is a good players with less than fantastic stats which usually equalls good value. Lawson is a 6'5 240 athletic freak who can do 2 things that none of our LBs could do this past year and that is cover TE's and get pressure on the QB. His price tag should not be very high and he might be intrigued by coming home. He can play strong side or weak side and would be an ideal highly rational guy to help keep TD healthy and give Anderson a break every now and then.
This one might be tough. He is arguably the best kicker in the NFL and might not want to stick around with the Jags. If we got him we would need to spend some money (similar to what we gave Mare) but he would be worth it. We would finally be starting fresh with a young consistent kicker and would no long have to worry whenever the FG unit takes the field. He is also a pretty decent kickoff kicker.
Draft:
*Trade*
We trade our 8th overall pick and 2013 3rd round pick for Cincinnati's 17th and 21st so they can move up to get Richardson. We then trade the 21st pick to St. Louis for there 2nd round pick and 2013 2nd round pick so they can move up for a WR
*Trade*
Mike Goodson and 7-8th for 5-25
He is a good player but he is in Rivera's dog house and getting rid of him saves us $700,000
1-17th WR Michael Floyd ND
Floyd is just as good as Jeffery and with the trade back we stock up on some picks
2-1st DE Jared Crick UN
Has the ability to play 4-3 DE 4-3 DT or 3-4 DE. I like that versatility
2-8th MLB Vontaze Burfict ASU
This is a value pick and with the departure of Connor we need a back up MLB
4-8th CB Cliff Harris UO
Has some character issues but BAMF can handle him. He is a play making CB that is monster returner (consider him a poor mans PP7)
5-8th FS George Iloka BSU
Tall athletic safety that could at least compete with Martin
5-25th RB Jeff Demps UF
Super speedy 3RB who replaces Goodson and is a special team monster
6-8th P Drew Butler UGA
We need a punter and he is the best in the draft
