A little Run Down of The Top CB's In this years Draft.

Hey Guys. Blac here, I could be packing my bags getting ready to go off to school but I feel like procrastinating so as we know the season is about to come to an end after this Sunday and I know the forums will be filled with nothing but mock drafts and other assorted opinions of people so I wanted to do something a little early.

I'm going to give a run-down of this year’s top 5 Draft Prospects of this year (Minus QB and RB since were pretty set there.) This is all IMHO based on stats, and from what I have seen in games of the players. I'm going to start with the Corner Back position because it’s pretty clear cut for the Most part.

Number one after the jump...

1. Morris Claiborne - LSU 6'0 185lbs junior. Projected Round 1st 4.45 40 Morrisclaiborne_original_display_image_medium

via cdn.bleacherreport.net

Stats: 2009: 3 solo tackles, 4 assisted 7 total

Total: 90 Totals Tackles 12 PBU 11 INTs

Awards:2011 Thorpe Award Recipient,2011 Unanimous First-Team All-American (AFCA Coaches', AP, FWAA, Sporting News, Walter Camp, ESPN.com, Rivals.com, CBSsports.com, FoxSportsNext.com, SI.com)
2011 Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year (Coaches)
2011 First-Team All-Southeastern Conference (AP, Coaches)
2011 Nagurski Award Finalist
2011 Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week (vs. Miss. State)
2010 Second-Team All-SEC (AP, Coaches).

Evaluation: Everyone knows about him whether you've watched LSU play or not. He's an Ex receiver so he has soft hands. Quick feet, great press cover guy. Physical guy who isn't afraid to tackler. Can be a bit lazy through his backpedal. He's a tad small in weight compared to most NFL Cb's but when he hits the weight room he will be able to gain some weight.

I'm sorry to say but I highly doubt that he will be in the range of the panthers projected pick (9th-14th I think it was?) If the panthers were to pick him up however, I think the whole Catscratchreader family would be elated.

On to number 2

2. Dre Kirkpatrick 6'2 192lbs Junior Alabama

Stats: Totals: 86 Tackles Solo 65 21Ast 0 Sacks 3 FF 3Ints

Awards:

• First-team All-American (FWAA, CBSsports.com & Pro Football Weekly)
• Second-team All-SEC (AP and Coaches)
• Finalist for the Thorpe Award
• First-team midseason All-American by CBSsports.com and Sporting News

Evaluation: 3 year starter at Alabama. Kirkpatrick is a taller corner that’s usually used in man coverage but can also be effective in the zone scheme (especially after the N.O game this is a necessity). He’s got great eye coordination. However he may overrun some plays and would rather gamble on the interception then secure the tackle. He’s a quiet player but confident (similar to Chris Gamble).

Projected Round 1st. I’m thinking 5th-15th He’ll be gone.

My 3rd CB. Most would call me crazy but I like this pick a lot

3. Jayron Hosley. Junior 5-10, 172, 40-4.52, Virginia Tech. Jayron-hosley_medium

via tommeltonscouting.files.wordpress.com

Career Stats: 73 Solo 36Ast 109 Total 1 Sack. 12Int (9 in 2010 led all NCAA) 18 Break ups. 30 Pass Deflections. And 2 Forced Fumbles. 67 Punt Returns 791 Yards, 11.8 Average. And 2 TDs.

Awards

· 2011 Honorable Mention All-American by SI.com

· 2011 Second-Team All-ACC

Evaluation: Explosive small corner with big play ability. Most teams picked his side because he was shorter and thought they could take advantage of it but in turn led the NCAA with 9 picks in 2010. He’s got great instincts and takes great angles on tackles. His major weakness would be his size and doesn’t do as well in the run game.

Projected round: Most scouts have him going at 26th to Detroit. But I’ thinking he could be an early 2nd round pick.

4th

4. Janoris Jenkins, North Alabama Senior, 5-11 182.

Stats: ( I couldn’t find his stats from N.A so I put the FLA ones up). 106 Total Tackles 81 Solo 25 Assisted. 2 Sacks 2 FF 8INT and 1 TD.

Awards

First team All-SEC,

Second Team All-SEC.

Evaluation: Most people didn’t hear of him because of Joe Hayden but Jenkins was definitely a stand out corner in himself. He’s got great speed and good instincts on plays. Great hands. Tore his Labrum last year and played with injury. The downside would be his off the field issues. Jenkins played for UF in 2008-2010 but in 2011 was dismissed from team after being arrested for fighting and marijuana. He then transferred to University of North Alabama and finished his year there.

Projected Draft Position: Late 1st Mid 2nd. I’m thinking 29th-45th maybe.

And my final Corner.

5. Alfonzo Dennard, Senior 5-10 205. Nebraska Alfonzo-dennard_medium

via www.nepatriotsdraft.com

I actually like this guy alot.

Stats: Total 89 Tackles. 61 Solo 28 Ast. 1FF 4INT 1TD

Honors & Awards

  • Preseason All-American (Phil Steele, 1st Team; Sporting News, Lindy's, 2nd Team, 2011)
  • First-Team All-Big 12 (ESPN.com, Rivals.com, 2010)
  • Second-Team All-Big 12 (Coaches, AP, Phil Steele, San Antonio Express-News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, 2010)

Evaluation: Big physical corner (205lbs) loves to be in press coverage and jam receivers. since he's a little shorter his arms are a tad bit shorter. Has natural hands due to playing WR in High school. Somewhat struggles to get off blocks.

Projected Draft Position: i actually think that he will be in the mid 1st to early 2nd round.

And there you have it guys. due to pure boredom and procrastination I have complied my top 5 Corners of this years draft (pending the Juniors forgo their senior year and go to the NFL Draft.)

If there is anything i can do to make this fanpost any better please give me some advice and constructive criticism.

I'm expecting BIG things from Carolina in 2012.
