G John Gianotto, WR Darvin Adams, DE Malcolm Tatum and CB Kendric Burney have been added to the ongoing list of cuts by the Carolina Panthers today bringing the current total to eight. Steve Reed reports that the Panthers have interest in bringing both Burney and Adams back to the practice squad, but that will depend on whether they're interested in that role and whether another team would be willing to sign them to their 53 man squad.
In the cases of OG and CB they are position that the Carolina Panthers desperately need depth in, but neither Gianotto, nor Burney showed enough to warrant making the 53 man roster. In the case of Burney it's important not to overvalue him because of pre-conceived notions at the college level. While he was an effective player at the University of North Carolina his skills never really presented themselves at training camp or during the preseason games.
If you're looking for a feel-good story today then turn your eye to OL Byron Bell who has reportedly made the cut.If you've read his astounding back story it will make you smile to know he made it.
