Mardy Gilyard cut by Rams?
From the 'moves that make too much sense' department, it appears the St. Louis Rams released 2010 4th round pick WR Mardy Gilyard this morning. Gilyard got numerous looks from the Carolina Panthers in the weeks leading up to the 2010 draft and many thought he would be one of the Panthers selections based on how much interest Marty Hurney and company showed in the receiver from Cincinnati.
I said 'appears' regarding Gilyard getting cut because the only information we have is a somewhat confusing tweet from Gilayrd himself:
Mardy Gilyard
Jus got released isshhh is getting real na ugh!!!!
Is he saying he got cut? Is he ending the tweet with the lingustic equivalent of 'no, I'm not'? Honestly, I'm not sure. But, if cut he represents a player who is a good kick returner and could be developed into a WR while being better than some guys who figure to be at the bottom of the depth chart.
Time will tell, but right now Tony Pike's favorite receiver seems like a good fit if he was released.

We must sign him...he can communicate with LaFell

We are a young team we have plenty of potential we would have to sign a proven tALENT
right now RG,DT,and CB are more important than WR
lol
I can actually hear him saying that…

"isshhh is getting real na"
is – this shhh – shit is getting real na – now = this shit is getting real now. I really appreciate his usage of Just with no T but he put the g at the end of getting, even though we all know he should have used the more ghetto proper gettn.
Not too sure about this guy
He missed OTA’s last year because of the U of Cincy graduating late, then got an early camp injury and never mentally caught up. Josh McDaniels shows up with a complicated playbook and Gilyard was lost (“mental lapses”). Not sure we want a guy coming to another team with one of the most complicated and deep playbooks in the NFL if he’s not going to be able to figure out where he’s supposed to be.
Oh my gosh please get him
I was so high on him when he came out in the draft. He would automatically upgrade are recievers
I don't think there is any proof to support that theory.

nah, pass on this dude.
after reading that issshh he wrote, and being cut so soon by the Rams, we don’t need him to take 8+ weeks to learn the concepts of the system. Our guys are intelligent and they’re still learning.
Agreed
If we can sign a proven vet at WR I’m all for it, but our roster is already full of “project” WRs.

If his knees can hold up, I like Robinson.
So much to be done, and so few people willing to do it for me.
They apparently held up for 120 yds Thursday.
That’s impressive, even if they were shopping him.
Which begs the question, why cut him, after he performs so well, in a fish or cut bait scenario?
Yeah, Gilyard can be a great addition to a team with a set WR corps. That isn’t us. If we are going to get a WR it should be a vet guy who can try and contribute right away. However, RG, DT, and CB are far more pressing needs at the moment.

No thanks
He’s been injury plagued and even when he wasn’t, he’s been ineffective. He hasn’t been able to crack the Rams’ top three receivers at any point, which says a lot.

I wasn't that high on Gilyard last year.......
and I’m still not. I feel like we’ve got plenty of guys like him on the roster already. Why not spend our time and efforts to find some veteran talent that can actually help the team? This guy seems like a waste of time right now.
