As you may know I'm not referring to ESPN's new metric here, but rather a method for evaluating QBs a friend a mine developed which is heavily reliant on yards per attempt (YPA), touchdown percentage and interceptions percentage. This basically gives us a rating not of a quarterback, but purely as a passer- how good are they at finding open receivers, how often do they throw valuable touchdowns and how often do they throw costly interceptions? What we've seen through two weeks is that it proves itself to be a much more reliable metric than the traditional QB rating (which would tell you Cam Newton is 18th in the NFL) or ESPN's total QBR (which would tell you Newton is worse than Alex Smith). Without further ado, the week three rankings:

We found it interesting that Cam Newton rated not only higher than all 2011 rookie QBs, but all 2010 sophomore QBs too. He also ranks 2nd in the NFC South, and 7th in the NFC.
