MLB Jason Phillips Is A Great Pickup From The Ravens

The Panthers signing of MLB Jason Phillips is a great signing, considering Dan Connor's injury history (only healthy and able to play in half his 3 year career games). He provides additional depth at MLB, joining Thomas Williams, and he has special teams experience with the Ravens.

Jason Phillips (6-1, 242) was a standout ILB at TCU, and the Ravens #137 pick in 2009, but spent his rookie year on IR. He was stuck behind Ravens starting ILB''s Ray Lewis and Jameel McClain, along with quality backup ILB's Dannell Ellerbe, and Tavares Gooden last season. Nfldraftscout.com shows that he had pretty good speed entering the NFL (4.60-40 and 1.53-10), and they have a very good, but long scouting report on him.

This is Phillips 3rd season, so his salary is $480,000 in 2011, and he will be a RFA in 2012.
