Panthers Need to Take Ball Out of Newton's Hands

This may sound counter intuitive, but the only way for the Panthers to be an effective offense is for the Panthers to not rely on Newton's arms or legs. Seems strange when Newton has turned an abysmal offense into one of the most electrifying in the league while tossing 400+ yards in both games, and if the season ended today would be in the Top 3 of the MVP voting easily. Yet, when you have an unpolished rookie coming off a shortened preseason (was one of the lucky few rookies to get a playbook, but still no OTAs), you should not ever force him to throw over eighty times in just the first two games of the season..............

So then how else are the Panthers going to be better? Simple, just run the damn ball. With one of the most talented backfields in football, you would think that Carolina would be more run-oriented (kinda like the Falcons) or at least be more balanced (like the Steelers). This eases the pressure on Newton, and allows the offense to be much better in the red zone, which has been a huge killer for the Panthers so far (Newton's passing stats in the Red zone: 6-16 for 30 yds., 38% comp. and 1.88 ypa!). As long as the Panthers score more touchdowns in red zone trips and don't settle for field goals, then this team should drastically improve.  I also believe that turnovers will also go down, which really stalled the Panthers right when they were on the edge of upsetting the defending Super Bowl Champions.

My gameplan would be to give DeAngelo and Stewart the ball, set up the play action more and just being a more balanced offense in general. It's terrific that Newton is utilizing his free agent TEs well, but he needs to spread the ball better (a little like Brees) and not lock on to his main guy Steve Smith so much. Lafell seems to be talented enough to step up as the number two, so look for him to explode this season. What are your thoughts on this?
