Observations from Week 1

The Panthers look like we can be a playoff team this year, if the issues that need to be addressed are.

Did you notice how on one play, we only had one man to the left of center, and on some plays, gross played the "te" slot, and olsen was on the left side. I like this approach, in stacking one side. We certainly need the help with the running game.

Did you notice how every skill position player that played excluding Brockel and Hartstock had a reception( Smith, Naanee, Lafell, Olsen, Shockey, Williams, Stewart, Goodson)..

I saw a lot of 2 WR, TE lined up off the line sets. This puts our best 3 or 4 out, instead of having Edwards out, we could bring shockey and olsen. In fact, I was dissapointed that the panthers didn't have SHOCKEY out on the last play. They had (Goodson, Naanee, Smith, Olsen, Lafell). Shockey could have powered his way past that defender. He was 1 yd short of the first down, just as Newton was 1 yd short of the Panthers single game passing record- Chris Weinke 423 yds.

Looks like there were some breakdowns in coverage, but for the most part we held our own keeping Fitzgerald and Heap in check. I was dissapointed in the run defense SHOCKER. We need to bring in a big run stopper soon, so he can learn the defense. I liked dropping hardy/johnson into coverage. I didn't like Pugh in w/ Godfrey at nickel.. it didn't work, we need to bring Butler in in those situations.

Did you notice how we didn't go for the field goal when we were on the 35. THATS A 53 YD FIELD GOAL... Punt coverage needs better players, we need connor, senn, hardy, lafell good tacklers out on pt. Penalties,

Rivera needs to buckle down on the discipline of these guys.

YES WE CAM!!!!

We might have a shot at beating the Packers..

We did get lucky a couple of times, roughing the passers, fumbles..

So you’re saying the stats are gaudy? That the Panthers were playing a lousy team? That the Panthers are better on paper than they’re seeming right now?

Look at how every team played yesterday. GB and BAL are the only legit contenders right now. DAL barely beat the NYJ… SF beat SEA? DET beat TB? Seriously?

NFL’s about parity… teams that were beat to the bottom of the barrel last year very well could go all the way this year…

bro honestly

Im sitting here being a nerd and watching the game again on DVR, and I must say: Our D line busted through there line ALOT. Other than a few 10 yard runs by Beanie we fared very well. I love Hardy one the end. Dude is showing great talent.

Hardy didnt get much press for his play but I thought he showed up yesterday

I also thought LaFell came through as well.

Defintely

Lafell definetly impressed me, I dont think he dropped one pass. Dude, did you see the fire in cam’s eyes in the presser? I have this feeling he is going to really do BIG things against the Pack
