How many games will it take for _______
While I was perusing the Carolina Panthers all time records I noticed that we have a chance for three of our players to take significant places in team history, and all three are likely to happen this year.
So, for a little pre-season fun I'd like you all to guess which game and quarter the following records will be broken during the 2011 season. If you don't think the player will hit that mark you can also say 'they wont make it'. As always we'll give some kudos and a shout out to those who get the closest to the mark for these records.
After the jump we'll look at the players and the records in depth
Steve Smith needs 372 yards to eclipse Muhsin Muhammad as the Panthers' all time leading receiver
- This one should happen in the first third of the season as Smitty rightfully takes his place as the all time leading receiver for the Carolina Panthers. Yes, the offensive system will take some getting used to, but at this point his biggest enemy is the QB play and if Cam Newton can keep up his deep pass accuracy then this one should happen sooner, rather than later.
When will Steve Smith break the record? (Game and quarter)
Chris Gamble needs 2 INTs to best Eric Davis as the Panthers' all time leader in interceptions
- Gamble has been sidelined with an illness thus far in training camp, but there's little doubt he'll be the #1 CB when the season opens. That being said, Gamble didn't manage a single INT in 2010 despite starting 10 games... this one is anyone's guess.
When will Chris Gamble break the record? (Game and quarter)
Jonathan Stewart needs 598 yards to move past DeShaun Foster to be #2 on the all time rushing list
- Stewart has made a big impact in a short time for the Carolina Panthers and needs just 598 yards to make Double Trouble #1 and #2 on the all time list. Depending on how the carries as split Stewart should get this in 2011 also, but it's tough to know when
When will Jonathan Stewart move into #2? (Game and quarter)
Have fun folks... let the guessing begin!

I’m actually a Gamble fan. Just feel like being a smartass, but in reality, I do think it’ll take him a while to get those INTs. Teams don’t throw his way much.

I know.
My thinking is with what happened last season, teams might try to test him early.

Yeah.
I thought it might be one of those things were he piles up four or five early in the season and then teams start throwing at the RCB almost exclusively (ask Dick about that).

Thanks. I really appreciate it.
I was fortunate enough this past weekend to spend quality time with him while he was still “coherent”. He’s requested (and been given) a morphine-induced semi-coma, and he’s been asleep since about 1 AM Monday. We’re pretty much waiting for the clock to run out at this point, and I’m sitting here in limbo waiting on “the call” to know when to go back home for the wake and funeral.

I fully expect us to pound the rock like a boss as the QBs transition, and I fully expect us to do it well with Otah and Hartsock. I want to jump off the couch and yell “get some!” as Stewart makes opposing linebackers his bitch.
I'll go with:
When will Steve Smith break the record? (Game and quarter)
My guess is Game 4, 4th Quarter
When will Chris Gamble break the record? (Game and quarter)
My guess is Game 3, 2nd Quarter
When will Jonathan Stewart move into #2? (Game and quarter)
My guess is Game 9, 3rd Quarter

I'll take
When will Steve Smith break the record? (Game and quarter)
My guess is Game 5. 1st quarter because he’ll probably only need like 15 yds to get the record and it’ll be against the Saints and could really get him and the crowd fired up.
When will Chris Gamble break the record? (Game and quarter)
My guess is Game 4 Chicago. 4th quarter. Depending on how the CB scenario plays out. I think Cutler picks on Captain but tries to test Gamble on out routes, digs and stop and go’s. Hopefully he has one early in the season but with Cutler being the gun-slinger he could get the two in that game.
When will Jonathan Stewart move into #2? (Game and quarter)
My guess is Game 11, 3rd Quarter against Detroit and he somehow finds a way to run on an improving (i’m guessing) Detroit Defense and Goodson should be coming into his own even more so it’ll take a bit longer than all of us want.
Smitty: Game 6, 1st quarter
Gamble: Game 6, 2nd quarter
Stew: Game 12, 4th quarter

Smitty will get plenty of deep bomb opportunities early because opposing D will probably still be stacking the box that early in the season.
We’ll be matching up with some pretty decent QB’s the first half of the season. But with the cranked up pressure, I’d have to say he’s guaranteed to get 4 or 5 INT’s this year.
I would say much sooner for Stew, but the backfield is obviously a little crowded.

Right on!
Smitty – Game 3 3rd Quarter (He’s back baby!)
Gamble – Game 2 4th Quarter (Attacking defense means more Picks!)
Stewart – Game 9 1st Quarter ( On pace for another 1000 yard season along with D-Will!!)
We need Brandon Larson to Play 3rd! Can't be worse than Rentawreck, right?!?

Let's see...
Smitty will need four games and become the franchise’s all time leading receiver in the 2nd quarter.
Gamble will break Eric Davis’ record in the second game, first quarter on an errant Rogers’ pass.
Stewie will surpass Foster in Week 7 against the Skins. Look for it to happen in the third quarter.

Panthers working QB Armanti Edwards in the Wildcat.
Armanti Edwards hits David Clowney on 65-yard bomb. Still has an arm.
When Armanti Edwards was in the Wildcat, Cam Newton was split out wide at receiver.

Teams will throw away from Gamble
and try to pick on Captain M. So I will say game 9-11 before he breaks the record.
The last time the Panthers played a football game
Cap’n was our best CB. Juz sayin.

Some good news from "BOSS!"
Steve Reed Twitter:

Panther predictions...
Steve Smith eclipses Moose Game 5 1st Quater
Chris Gamble does’nt get two interceptions all year long.
Jonathan Stewart… Game 14, 2nd Quarter. I think Stewart gets a lot of playing time taken away from Goodson And Sutton this year, but the RBC will elcipse 2,200 rushing yards as a unit.
ALAC's predictions.
Steve Smith- 6th game, 1st quarter.
Chris Gamble- 8th game, 3rd quarter.
Jonathan Stewart- 7th game, 3rd quarter.
