In case you missed it last night, the Carolina Panthers signed free agent WR Legedu Naanee to a one year contract. Naane, formerly played for the San Diego Chargers. He represents another link between offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski's past and the Panthers joining the likes of Jeremy Shockey, Greg Olsen and Derek Anderson as far as players linked to the former University of Miami, Cleveland Browns and San Diego Chargers' offensive mind.
While unlikely he would be given a starting job, the 27 year old Naanee has the opportunity to challenge Armanti Edwards, David Gettis and Brandon LaFell for the #3 WR spot, depending on who gets the starting job. Throughout his career Naanee has been buried on a talented San Diego depth chart, often becoming the 4th or 5th option. However, with Vincent Jackson's holdout last year he had a few more chances, and his 5 reception, 110 yard game vs. Kansas City's talented secondary last year typifies this.
In a lot of ways I see this move to be very similar to the deal that brought Derek Anderson to Carolina; an established player who understands the offense who can both facilitate and communicate slot receiving principles to the young players, while contributing reliable hands in the offense.
Naanee's stats after the jump...
