Panthers have been in touch with Alex Brown?

Alex Brown reported to ESPN that three teams have been in touch with him, including his former team, the Chicago Bears.  In the conversation was also mention of Coach Ron Rivera and the Carolina Panthers, although it is uncertain whether or not the interest has been mutual.

"I would love to go play in a 4-3 (defensive scheme), so there are a lot of teams out there that still run a 4-3 that could use a defensive end that still has a little bit left. So hopefully I can find a good place that my family and I can feel comfortable with."

Brown also mentioned the Carolina Panthers and first-year coach Ron Rivera, who was the Bears' defensive coordinator when the team reached Super Bowl XLI in 2007

Coach Rivera was in charge of the Chicago Bear Defense that went to the Super Bowl in 2007, so he and Brown have a history together, and a reportedly very good one at that.  If this is true, the team may be making a move on Brown at some point in the next 24-48 hours if the interest is mutual.

When pressed on the situation, Brown was non-committal as to his future plans, only saying he had to do what was best for he and his family.  As to whether or not he can help the Panthers D line which is lacking depth at the DE position, that remains to be seen, as he is 32.  Certainly it wouldnt hurt to have a look at him, however.
