Beason to Miss Panthers Season Opener; Maybe More
Yeah, this blows though it's no surprise given he has yet to practice since the first week of camp:
Beason first experienced pain in his left foot in May while training during the lockout. It was first diagnosed as Achilles' tendinitis. But when it did not respond well to treatment, Beason went in for a second MRI exam and learned he has a bone bruise on his heel.
Doctors inserted three screws and told Beason normal recovery time is three to four weeks. Under that timetable, Beason would miss the Week 2 game against Green Bay, as well.
Count me as very glad we hung on to LB Dan Conner after considering him for a trade. Playing GB without him will put us behind the eight ball.

Honestly, I'm not surprised.
This is really upsetting though.

This sucks, but I'd rather have a 100% Beast for 14 games than a 75-80% beast for 16 games.
Or even worse, a 75% Beast for 2-3 games then a trip to IR.

how is the Newton to Olsen connection? I have Olsen as a backup TE and was considering droping him for Dustin Keller. Any advice? Thanks
Really wanted Newton as a Bill…..

Olsen should se a lot of action this year. He's basically our second option on every play.
Coupled with his ability to catch anything thrown his way and his huge hitbox, I fully expect Newton to go to him at least six times a game.
is he a top red zone threat?

Holy crap! It must be the apocalypse...
I finally get back on here after being in the dark (courtesy of Hurricane Irene) to learn Kasay signed with the Saints, Schwartz is done for the year and now Beast will miss two or more games during the regular season. I knew I should have picked up a bottle of Jack.

Connor is no beast, but he is a stud in his own right.
I’m not terribly bothered by this news. Our linebacker corps remains one of the (potentially) best in the league at that position, even with Connor running things in the middle.
Newton for '11 ROY!
Walker for '11 ROY!
Biyombo for '11 DPOY!
I think the most we're gonna miss Beason is in his leadership.
Without him in the middle, our unit is gonna have a new defensive guy with the headset calling the plays and the audibles on the line of scrimmage. If Connor can step up though and show what he can do, I wouldn’t put it past the Panthers to trade Connor for a defensive tackle once Beason is back up to full speed.

That's what I've been thinking since hearing about Beason's injury
So much to be done, and so few people willing to do it for me.
Is this new?
I thought we had learned the timetable last night (ish), but Beason still seemed enthusiastic about getting out there week one.
"I’m not superstitious, but I am a little stitious."
slightly off subject, but how about Anthony Gray for DT?
Cut by the Steelers. 5-11 330. Might be able to help us stop the run. Jay Alford cut by Seattle might be a possibility, but I like Grays size better.
Alford Isn't The Same Player After His Knee Injury, I Really like Gray (5-11 3/4, 330, 5.17-40, 39 Bench Reps)

Damn. He's pretty fast once he gets rolling ;-)
So much to be done, and so few people willing to do it for me.
My positive view of this situation.
With Beason out, Connor will come in and play great football. This in turn will up his trade value and once Beason is back and completely healthy, we could possibly get much more for Connor than we would now.
And I love Connor, he’s one of my favorite players even as a back up, so I would hate to see him leave but it would make the team much better if we could get a good player/pick while he could get a chance to start elsewhere.

Optimal scenario, Connor plays lights out and Philly gets exposed for the sham that their LB corps is
DRC, pretty please?
Might be a little more than one week.
And, its all about needs. Philly is trying to win a championship, if they need Connor to help them do this, I see no reason as to why they wouldn’t give up their amazing nickelback for a solid MLB that they actually need.

As much as I would love that
I really doubt they’d trade DRC straight up for Connor. Remember they traded Kolb for DRC, and as much as I love Connor, what essentially would end up being Kolb for Connor just wouldn’t make sense for Philly. Throw in a draft pick and I could see it happening.

Beacon being out sucks no doubt. But aslong as Otah stays healthy and plays I can rest easy at night. No otah= no running game basically.
i agree with ya
hopefully he will heal faster than Otah
Yet another casualty of the lockout?
Perhaps the NFL should give teams a roster exemption for each player hurt or injured due to the lockout. The team could carry an extra player until the “lockout injury” is ready to play.
Who knows, that CBA is so complicated, it might already be in the contract!

Some good news about the waiver wire!
According to Florio, every Panther fans favorite analyst… like 864 players are about to be cut due to roster reductions. This means a lot of teams with depth at a position, will inevitably have to cut good players to get down to the 53 man roster. More importantly, the way the CBA is structured, we have 1st dibs on any player who’s been in the league 4 years or less.
This is a great chance for Hurney and co to beat every other team to the punch, and solidify our weaknesses with cheap, solid, young players.

Question...
How the Hell does three screws fix a bruise? That is just weird. Maybe you all covered this earlier during the hurricane and I missed it.

Because Beason is a cyborg. Duh. :-)

Everything I've read
says screws are for treatment of fractures in the heel bone, not bruising…
There must be more to that story
That’s just weird. I have had many bone bruises, the last is still healing from pulling a a Greg Hardy a month ago.
I smell a conspiracy… if nobody comes up with a better one, I am going with BW’s cyborg theory.
Losing to ARZ could quickly spiral into a series of season ending losses
Based on how the schedule toughens after that game. I hope we can get above .500 by game 9, because the 2nd half of the season is absolutely brutal!

Connor is awesome.... but even if we win I'm gonna be a little sad
Gonna miss seeing Beason out there on game day. Hope he recovers fast and makes the Pro-bowl anyway…. as it should be
Rookie WR Kealoha Pilares Suffered A High Ankle Sprain This Morning & May Now Go On IR
Losing Pilares opens the door for the Panthers to add another small speed WR like Donnie Avery, Anthony Gonzalez, Brandon Tate, or Golden Tate, if they are cut.
Sounds like a 4 week kinda thing tops, right?
I don't always fail, but when I do...
I do it awesomely.

They’re very painful and can take a long time to not only heal but get your confidence back in the ankle.

I had one of those
I couldn’t run or cut for about a month, and I still need to wear a brace to practice and games. The confidence factor was another issue. That said, I could see the PUP, but IR? There’s no way it’s just a high ankle sprain if that’s the case.

Where is there "any" evidence Beason will miss 1st game??????
It was stated that the normal time for recovery is 3 to 4 weeks the day after Beason had surgery. That is all this article is basing the entire headline “Beason to Miss Panthers Season Opener; Maybe More”.
Absolutely no one has said Beason will miss the season opener. Just the opposite, Beason has been quoted as saying he is working to make it to the 1st game. You need to factor in the Beast is a cyborg and the next thing you know he has extended his streak of never missing a game.
Not trying to be Debbie Downer
But, I think Conner is week as hell in coverage. He just doesn’t have the speed to cover TE’s. We could get exposed big time. Great against the run, but not so hot in space. Gaither could be a better option in coverage…That is all.
Panthers Awarded FB Jerome Felton, Is Tony Fiammetta Going On IR Now?
RotoWorld just reported that the Panthers were awarded ex-Lions FB Jerome Felton (6-0, 246), and his $1.2 million salary in 2011 (he’s a free agent in 2012), though both the Eagles and Vikings put in claims for Felton. They say he might be a slightly better blocker than Fiammetta, but at more than double the cost of Tony F.
