There is so much reason for optimism when it comes to the Panthers' rookie QB Cam Newton.
Signed and in camp on time: check
Freakish athletic ability: check+
Size and strength: check+
Strong arm: check
Ability to scramble: check
Leadership: check
Intangibles: (surprisingly to some,) check
Work ethic: check
Desire to win: check
Good teammate: as far as we can tell so far, check.
I might be oversimplifying, but it seems to me Training Camp 2011 has thus far only revealed one "negative" in Cam's early performances in Training Camp: accuracy.
Lots of high throws. Missing short routes.
So what do you think? How important is accuracy in Cam's pursuit of becoming a top QB in the NFL? Do all the other "strengths" overshadow this one possible "weakness"? Can Cam lead us to the promised land if he completes only 50-55% of his throws? (Think Vick version 2005) Or does he need to be in the 60-70% range to be successful like most other QB's?
What do you think? Cam has ALOT of things going for him, so much potential. But can he achieve success in the NFL if he proves to be a relatively inaccurate passer?
