After seeing that the Panthers are over the salary cap, I took a look a teams depth charts, to see what players may be cut later, and found 4. i looked at DT's and DE's who were 5th on their teams depth charts.
DE Phillip Merling (6-4, 272, now 295, 4.73-40) of Clemson was the Dolphins #32 pick in 2008. His production hasn't been great, and he missed most of last season on IR. In 2008 he had 26 tackles, and 1 sack, with 33 tackles, and 2 sacks in 2009.His contract calls for a $700,000 salary this year, so if you want him, then you might want to let him clear waivers, but it would only save $100,000.
DE Lawrence Sidbury, Jr. (6-3, 266, Combine 4.64-40, Pro Day 4.53-40, 1.53-10) of Richmond was the Falcons #125 draft pick in 2009, but has done almost nothing in his 2 seasons, with only 5 tackles, and 1 sack in 2009. He hasn't produced, but his great size to speed ratio is hard to overlook. His 2011 salary is only $480,000, so if he gets cut you may want to claim him.
DT/3-4 DE Alex Magee (6-2 5/8, 298, Combine 5.03-40, Pro Day 4.83-40, 1.66-10, 30 bench reps) of Purdue was the Chiefs #67 pick in the 2009 draft, but he was cut last season, and claimed by the Bucs. Magee's workout numbers are almost and exact match with Panthers #65 draft pick Terrell McClain in this years draft (he's just a little faster in the 10 yard split). Magee's production has been a mixed bag, with 8 tackles and 1 sack in 2009, and 10 tackles with 2 sacks in 2010. Magee's 2011 salary is $480,000. Let's hope McClain post better numbers for the Panthers this year than Magee did for the Chiefs.
DT Clinton McDonald (6-2, 283, now 297, 4.83-40) of Memphis, where he was a very good pass rusher, was the Bengals #249 pick in 2009, but has only posted 4 tackle in 2010. RotoWorld reports his salary as $405,000, but I think that's a misprint, and should be $480,000.
These 4 D-Linemen are almost all potential and no production, but that's why they may be cut by their teams, so I don't see a need to post a poll. I just wanted to show a few D-Linemen that may be cut.
