Jason LaCanfora tweeted the following a few minutes ago:

WR Malcolm Floyd, one of few big fish out there, nearing a decision. SD, SF, CAR, BAL, AZ all possibilities. Some interested teams working..

While we've postulated about Floyd in the past, these thoughts were mostly predicated on speculation because of a past relationship with Rob Chudzinski; this information from LaCanfora is the first tangible evidence we have that the Carolina Panthers may be looking to add another WR to the mix.

This seems like a curious decision, or rather, the timing seems curious. Perhaps the Panthers were just waiting on Floyd to make a decision, but by most accounts from training camp the WR position looks surprisingly deep with numerous players stepping up and playing to their potential. The addition of Floyd would create a huge logjam at the position, but, that being said he's still better than any WR currently on the roster not named Steve Smith.

- In the right offense Floyd has the definite chance of being a 1,000 yard WR. For a bellweather of his ability look no further than his 10/10/10 game against Oakland. In this contest Floyd played out of his mind totaling 8 receptions for 213 yards and a TD, he simply couldn't be stopped. If he were to be paired with a speedy deep threat like Steve Smith it could create big mismatch problems.

As always, we'll have any news of a signing as it happens here on CSR
