Anytime you hear the term 'surgery' and your star-player it causes fans to freak out, and rightfully so. Today it was reported that Jon Beason underwent surgery yesterday on his achilles tendon which has been bothering the MLB with tendonitis during training camp

Jon Beason had minor surgery on his Achilles on Tues. Still has not been ruled out for week 1.

While it may have not been officially stated he'll miss week one, it's hard to imagine he can have a turnaround to game readiness in a little over two weeks. That being said, Beason is tough... extremly tough, and if there's any possible way he can take the field on September 11th he will.

This news makes backup MLB Dan Connor all the more important. With Thomas Davis out last year shuffling on the line caused Connor to start 8 games in 2010 totaling 47 tackles during that time. He's more than capable filling in if needed, but Jon Beason is needed for his leadership, especially on a young team. If there's one saving grace it's that the Panthers were proactive in getting his achilles repaired, rather than allowing this to wait and Beason possibly get his name added to the long list of players with tears this year.
