Williams home town is Richlands NC, he played at NC St., and he might like to return home, if the leaves the Texans. No trade rumors about Williams have surfaced yet, but his 2011 salary is $13.8 million, and he will be a Unrestricted Free Agent in 2012, so it's possible he could be traded. The Texans could use their Franchise Tag on Williams next year at around $16.6 million or more. The Panther would want to exten his contract as part of any deal, probably something in the range of Charles johnson's deal.
Williams was the #1 pick in the 2006 draft, ahead of Reggie Bush. The texans have built their defense around Williams, and they are pushing for the playoffs this season, so they may not be willing to trade Williams (just hope they can re-sign him). The Texans Have switched to a 3-4 defense this season, and Williams hasn't adjusted to his move from 4-3 DE very well yet. Williams has played very well in his NFL career, though his numbers have dipped the last 2 seasons. Here are Williams career stats.
Year - Tackles - Sacks - Passes Defended - Forced Fumbles
2006 - 47 - 4.5 - 3 - 1
2007 - 59 -14.0 - 1 - 2
2008 - 53 - 12.0 - 0 - 4
2009 - 43 - 9.0 - 3 - 2
2010 - 28 - 8.5 - 2 - 1
"James" suggested that the Panthers offer DE Everette Brown, 2012's 2nd round pick, and 2013's 1st round pick to the Texans for Williams. I believe the Texans would insist on the Panthers 2012 1st round pick, thinking that it's likely a top 5 or 10 pick, and mabe Hardy or Brown, but what do you all think?
