I just saw Mark Schlereth's analysis of Cam tonight on ESPN. He complimented Cam on a few good reads, a check down or two and getting better at selling the run. He also mentioned that when the pocket is clear Cam makes accurate throws "with authority." Schlereth also noted when Cam is under pressure his accuracy drops off, which is also presently true. Earlier in the week we got listen to ESPN's Merrill Hoge tell us how inaccurate and terrible Cam Newton is while simultaneously getting hot, bothered and wet over Ryan Mallett. These are my personal notes to our beloved EPSN Analysts:
Mark Schlereth, High-five for shining some positive light on the progression of Cam Newton. He does need more work, and repetition of good habits. And you're right, he'll get there.
Merril Hoge, you're kind of a dick. Go watch film on Tim Tebow to reiterate how terrible you think he is. Maybe you can have a "Who's more terrible?! Cam or Tim?!" Late Night Special on ESPN Classic? Tell Ryan Mallett "Hello Ryan.." from me on your guys' Carnival Cruise to Douche Bay near the Coast of Youaredick. Ass!
Overall, yeah, Cam does need to AND WILL improve. I have no doubt in this. He does have some bad habits to squash (throwing off the back foot, locking on to guys, etc). He showed these bad habits tonight. He will settle down and he will be an effective starter with time. He's only begun the adjustment to the pro game. Cam may not be ready for a starting role now, but he has shown glimpses of being something special in the NFL and for our Panthers.
On a personal note: One year ago, I NEVER expected to be writing something nice to support Cam Newton. I guess that Panther Blue makes all the difference. Go get 'em Cam.
