Rivera said the game video of Saturday's 20-10 win over the Giants didn't change his assessment of what he saw from the top two quarterbacks. Both did some good things; both made some mistakes, and there were some mistakes from their offensive teammates that caused the quarterbacks to misfire at times.Thoughts?
"The thing that was really good about the way they played was it was right in line with the things we thought they were capable of doing," Rivera said.
I still have mixed feelings about who should start the sesaon for the Panthers. Although Clausen did show more moxie and actually took a couple of shots down the field, his pocket presence, general lack of mobility and lack of arm strength severely caps the upside of the entire offense.
Newton can and did make equal or better decisions to what we saw from the new and improved Jimmy Clausen, can make better and more aggressive throws and has the added benefit of being able to extend the play with his ability to scramble and still have the arm strength to take advantage of defenses that have to dedicate a man to contain him.
"The thing that was really good about the way they played was it was right in line with the things we thought they were capable of doing,"What do you think Rivera meant by this statement, and who do you think gives the Panthers the best chance to win, and why?
