3rd round pick McClain to report to Panthers camp

Stay connected for news and updates

In what was the most bizarre move of the last week, third round pick DT Terrell McClain missed the first days of training camp due to unknown reasons. Some believed McClain was holding out, others said the DT went missing after speaking to the team on Thursday night, while some thought his agent simply dropped the ball in working with the Panthers to get his deal signing. All three seemed equally improbable; with a rookie pay scale there was no real reason to hold out, it seemed hard to imagine he would vanish, and his agent would be extremely unprofessional to just fail in getting a deal worked out. As it stands it doesn't appear that we'll need to worry about the 'why', just get the man into camp already.

Greg Auman of the St. Petersberg Times Tweeted this morning:

Good news on former USF DT Terrell McClain, still unsigned as Panthers third-round pick. Just wrote on Facebook: "I'm finally off to camp."

As the first pick of the 3rd round McClain figures to play a big role for the Panthers immediately as a 3-technique DT next to FA signing Ron Edwards. Unless something dramatic happens in the upcoming days I think it's safe to assume these will be your starters. Glad to hear he'll finally get to appear in Spartanburg and see his ability.
