Underdog Watch: Which "On the bubble" Panthers player are you pulling for this preseason?
Alot of us including myself like to cheer for the underdog. As Training Camp opens this year for the Panthers, we see several familiar faces of guys that were around last year but were either injured, put on the practice squad, or saw limited playing time. Some may make the squad, many will not. Here's a few of the guys that come to mind:
Or, maybe you've already got your eye on one of our undrafted free agents we added this week.
So how about you? Which Panthers "underdog" are you pulling for to make this year's 53 man roster, and why?

Well I like Trent guy alot, and think he has all the intangables to be a good NFL pro, he doesnt have crazy athletic ability and short for a WR, but has great hands and wants to get better…and “want” is actually hard to find in the NFL sometimes. I would hate for him to slip away and become a Danny Woodhead type of player for a team that knows how to better utilize him…hopefully Chud will…lord know Davidson didnt know about anything except blocking schemes.
However, the player that I think could help us the most is Duke Robinson. This guy, unlike Treny Guy, has all the tools. Hes built exactly like Otah, but yet doesnt have the “want” or “drive” to go with it. Hes listed at 330, and some say thats a little overweight for him anyways, and he should try to play at 320. His rookie year he came in out of shape, and last year he was hurt (maybe due to the shape he was in?)…and this year they said he looks more like 350ish than 330. If he got his act together, he could easily be a mauler at the guard position. It looks like Geoff Schwarts might have taken that spot for good anyway though with his play filling in for Otah last year. We still need him though atleast for depth, idk how much more Wharton has left and Otah has been hurt, so we may have to slide Geoff over again this year and play MAC B or Duke at RG.
Also I had high hopes for Irvin coming out of college since he was a SEC guy, but hes been nothing but a practice squad player ever since so idk anymore, maybe we should cut tie with McClain and Fua coming in as well as R. Edwards from KC.
I like Duke and Adams
Duke as Seth was saying, could be a great talent if he put the time and effort into his play. I feel like he is content just making it to the NFL and is not striving to be the best. If he could lose a little bulk, he could leaner and little faster to be able to open up the hole fast.
Adams for me seems like a great player. I know the chemistry is there with Cam and he is fast. Reading up on him on ESPN, I can’t believe that he did not get drafted. Many attribute some of his success to defenses focusing their attention on Newton but I liked that he:
Can catch the ball in stride and fluid turning upfield. Long-strider with good top-end speed and tracks the deep ball well. However, lacks the burst to outrun NFL defenses after the catch.
They went on to talk about his ball skills saying:
Above average focus and looks the ball into hands. Can catch the ball in stride. Above average body control and can adjust to passes thrown outside frame. Rarely drops ball but body catches some passes.
The only thing that looks iffy that his weight does not match up with his 6’2’’ frame. Since this is now his job, hopefully he can add some weight and not look so lanky. Unfortunately it is an insider article but I liked what they said about him and I am sure as hell hoping he can be a ST or reserve player that we can promote to the roster next season.

If you wrote David Getiis, and then posted those quotes i dont think anyone would know the difference. I think thats a good thing, we got a steal….maybe the steal of the draft with Gettis (I think Blount in Tampa was the best steal, but since he wasnt drafted Im not including him)
Give Gettis some time, who would have thought he would end up starting over Lafell last year? Although I think Lafell can be every bit of the talent D. Bowe in KC is. It took Bowe a few years ( and a decent QB) to become what he is, as far as talent and big play ablility Lafell ceiling is very high.
No one talks about this with Gettis but
He was a 400m track specialist at Baylor who trained with Jeremy Wariner – the 400m Gold Medalist and World Champ. The man has some wheels and is a burner. His hands will get better, you cant teach speed……..
The thing that intrigues me about Gettis being a 400m guy is the stamina it takes...
I would look for him to be blowing by tired CBs in the 4th quarter.
So much to be done, and so few people willing to do it for me.
I ran it in college - brutal, brutal race
You go all out for 47-55 seconds (depending on how fast you are) – you can do that, you can do three gassers down the field during an O set :)
gettis is very impressive
lafell better work hard or he will find himself looking up at DG on the depth chart, for sure
I think LaFell didnt get a fair shake from Fox last year
He is a good possession guy. I think Gettis is in a class all by himself. The xfactor may be Armanti – if he can live up to potential he could be our Devin Hester….or at least our Eric Weems.
Trent Guy
Local kid with amazing drive. He grew up a few miles from the stadium and it would be awesome to see him play a game as a Panther there.
Goddamn quebecios! It is 35 miles per hour, not 35 kilometers per... whatever is metric for hour.

charly martin ST captain?
charly has alot of good intangibles, he was starting to make a mark on special teams last year when he got hurt. he is big and has a big motor, i’d like to see him as our next karl hankton. could play WR in a pinch, in case of injury.
Neblett
with Landri and Johnson gone and (give me mo money dancing bear) McClain a hold out for now, I’d say Neblett has the most opportunity to make a splash in camp. foxy really liked him, we will see if he’s good enough to make the cut.
How did I miss that Landri's gone?
I’m honestly kind of surprised. He seemed like he’d be good for depth and as a rotation guy.
Anyway, I thought Neblett showed a lot of promise at the end of last season, so I do hope that he makes the roster. He didn’t get a lot of time on the field, but to the best of my memory, I really liked what I saw.

i believe landri was an UFA that quietly slipped away like rosario,
not offered a contract. he was in denver friday but did not yet sign? unless i missed it. I kinda hate he’s gone too, until we see what the rooks can do
Ah...
I forgot that he was a UFA…makes sense.

How about Burney?
We have a need for him now, I know he is small but damn he played well at UNC. And I kind of think we need depth at that there CB position…….
No need to apologize
Or, maybe you’ve already got your eye on one of our undrafted free agents we added this week.

Any Panther works!
That is why I love this board

wish he were taller but
in terms of opportunity, as it stands now, CB is another position with the door wide open to make the team….we have not really replaced Marshall and Hogan will not be ready week 1. So Burney should have a shot if he earns it
But for his trouble at UNC
I think he could have been a 4-6th rdr maybe better. His yards after INT and his INT numbers were really strong. I really think he will be in the mix this year. Maybe they are waiting to see what they have with him before making another move on FA, although I would prefer they sign someone with some length in the tooth in terms of playing time.
I like Ugo Chinasa
If Norwood can’t transition to DE and Kracken is out longer than expected, I could see this UDFA get a long look at camp…It’s not manu4t…pick whoever you like…
I'll go with Corvey Irvin
Had high hopes for him after grabbing him in the 3rd round even though he never came close to living up to them. Haven’t heard anything positive about him so my expectations are still low, but he would fill a big need and it would be nice to see that 3rd. round pick start to pay some dividends.
Rules and Regulations of the Game: 89, Bottom Line
UDFA bubble guys that might make an impact
Byron Bell (OL – NM St.) – guy can jump for a big man and has good hustle
Jamorris Warren (WR – Central Mo.) – he obviously impressed more than Blaine Gabbert at Gabbert’s pro day!
Darvin Adams (WR-Auburn) – already has a rapport and timing with Cam – and did you see that Hail Mary he hauled in last year?
Also my newly minted wife and her family are all AL fans so...
the drafting of Cam, Zeimba and UDFA signings thereafter were a big test on our marriage:)
newly minted....sounds like congrats are in order
and pls tell me you are NOT posting from your honeymoon….
LOL no she make me leave the laptop and phone at home.
Although I did wear a Panthers jersey in Portugal – got a lot of stares (on a topless beach no less!).
Thanks man!
IF they cut Neblett, I'll be shocked. He didn't get many snaps last year as a rookie,
but when he did, he really showed up. As PFF says:
Give This Guy More Snaps: DT Andre Neblett (+3.9 in 152 snaps)
Carolina went into the year with a shortage of defensive tackles and as the year wore on that meant that Neblett got some playing time. The big rookie had some bad moments (giving up an offside penalty in his first snap versus Atlanta in Week 17) but looked like a run stuffer with some sizeable (pun intended) potential. If you don’t believe us, watch him go one-on-one versus Maurkice Pouncey or Todd McClure, and how many times Neblett he was able to collapse a running lane.
So much to be done, and so few people willing to do it for me.
Barnidge
Barnidge is a beast to tackle and I also find myself pulling for David Clowney.
Vaughan & Barnidge
Vaughan plays like a man possessed. Barnidge is solid, but not great, but I’ve always liked the guy.
