Panthers Sign #1 Pick QB Cam Newton
Panthers rookie QB will be reporting to camp on time after signing his deal, which is fully guaranteed:
"I expect him to be here," Rivera said.
Newton had been in Charlotte during the negotiations.
Panthers general manager Marty Hurney praised Newton's agents, Bus Cook and Tony Paige, for their approach.
"Their approach has been terrific," he said.
It's $22M over 4 years, about $56M less than last year's #1 pick Sam Bradford. That leaves 3rd round pick DT Terrell McClain as the only draft pick unsigned:
Negotiations with defensive tackle Terrell McClain have not progressed well, Hurney said, but he didn't elaborate. Other than McClain, all the Panthers draft picks have reported.
I'm not going to read too much into this just yet but it is worrisome.

I wonder what "not progressed well" means?
You’d think that the rookie wage scale would make it pretty easy.

Not a good start to a NFL career.
Worrisome. Where there character concerns with him? I hope he pans out. We need him to be a stud in the middle.
I like collard greens.
McClain was picked in the third round
The man needs to appreciate his position and be grateful he is getting paid to do something that many consider a privilege. People are unemployed and struggling to get by these days. His base salary alone will allow him to live comfortably. McClain, man up and sign your damn contract. You haven’t proven anything to us except that you are greedy.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained...sometimes you have to go against the grain.

McClain needs to quit screwing around...
He should see that we’ve got a good thing started here. If I were him, I wouldn’t want to miss the bus. It would suck to start your career in the dog house.
