Falcons Beatwriter Sees Falcons Focusing on Retaining O-Line
Though this was a piece predicting the Falcons will not go after DE Ray Edwards, being they have plenty of their own to get signed first which includes 3 of their 5 starting offensive linemen. If the Falcons can't go after Edwards then the same should be true of our own Charles Johnson:
If no Edwards, what are the Falcons going to do at defensive end? I didn’t get a plausible answer for this. Kroy Biermann thinks he can make another leap if he doesn’t have to play on special teams.
Charles Johnson likely headed back to Carolina: Johnson, the former UGA standout, could be another defensive end target, but Carolina general manager Marty Hurney said it was rather easy to figure out their priorities. Translation: They plan to re-sign Johnson and running back DeAngelo Williams.
Remember that this last round of meetings was held in Atlanta so maybe Ledbetter is doing more than guessing. I do like the notion that other teams already know the Panthers will make a strong play for both players so they better bring the pot-o-gold if they want either one. But I don't think just because we have priorities it rules out either leaving. I'm just hopeful that as long each feels they are being paid properly they will stay.

That is excellent news to hear from a Falcons beatwriter.
I’m holding my breath, I’m cautious, but it’s still good to hear.
"One play can win a game, but one play cannot lose a game." - Coach Peterson, Boise St.
"When you get into coaching, you strive to be a Super Bowl-winning head coach. That’s what my goal is, to come here and become a Super Bowl-winning head coach and to sustain an atmosphere of winning." - Ron Rivera
I hope this is what happens after the lockout ends....
I’d really hate to lose either Williams or Johnson to another team. You can really believe that if either is not back in Carolina, it’s not going to be from lack of trying on the FO’s part.

I bet they'll let DeAngelo test the market a bit
Based on needs it makes sense to throw a lot of money at Johnson. But DWill is just a nice to have. I don’t think you thrown a bunch of money at position you’re so deep at.
I’d lockup Johnson, then Anderson, look hard for a starting DT and CB in free agency… then what’s left for DWill.

Blasphemy!
But I’ll subscribe to your newsletter. I agree with you 100%.
One cries because one is sad. For example: I cry because others are stupid, and it makes me sad.
Actually maybe we should sign and trade him
Give him a year to remind the league who he is, and then trade him for a high pick next off season???

Trade him? Are you crazy?
We can’t break up Double Trouble!!! We have to keep Stewart a backup forever and let Goodson rot on the bench. Haven’t you learned anything?

Yeah, I've learned that even Double Trouble can't always prevent a 2-14 season
I’d prefer a strategy that can

With their cap situation
i always thought the ATL Johnson connection was based more on wishful thinking then reality, but the same could be said for a number of the conections with us, like Braylon Edwards, and Zack Miller….. I can not wait to see what our team looks like in a week and half.

When I see or hear sports segments dedicated to fantasy sports I want drive a nail in my ear because it is less painful. --also me.
The difference in their wishful thinking and ours is
supposedly we have the cap space to cover our wishes.
Amen to that.
Yet a part of me was concern that they would harm their future yet again but trying ot find a way to get CJ at the cost of furture seasons. They already traded a draft for a rookie with major upside, so they are in deep already… But if they want to sink their own ship for horse power i say go for it muahahhaha.

No prob BigRed...I'm the same way
can’t wait to get an official announcement on the free agency windows. We’ve got predictions all over the map. It’s crazy, keep hearing different things
“D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes the Falcons had a "change of heart"” when it comes to signing Ray Edwards. This still makes me a little nervous for CJ
I think their change of heart came when the cap came in at $120m... in addition to their
O-Line, Brent Grimes is a 3rd-year RFA, and he’s looking for big money.
So much to be done, and so few people willing to do it for me.
Kroy Biermann thinks he can make another leap if he doesn’t have to play on special teams.
I like the way Biermann plays the game, but he had 3 sacks last season…and TWO of them came in the same quarter against Jimmy Clausen week 14.

Yeah, it looks that way.
And at that rate it looks like he plays about 4 positions on special teams.

Sorry if this is perhaps the wrong place to ask, but is the lockout now over? I’m so confused anymore…

Technically, no.
The union still has to recertify, and the vote has to officially take place.
But, the players are saying they’re going to vote yes. It’s just a matter of completing the formality of the vote.
One cries because one is sad. For example: I cry because others are stupid, and it makes me sad.
no BW, the lock out can end, they still have to vote for the union though.
They will end the lock out so the players can gather at their team places to vote on it.
There's still no league year...that's what I meant.
They can say there’s no lockout, but until the union re-certifies and votes, we don’t have football.
One cries because one is sad. For example: I cry because others are stupid, and it makes me sad.
Nobody knows, lol.
There are five different stories from five different sources.
From what I understand, the league is going to allow teams to negotiate with their own free agents, but no contracts can be signed until July 30th at the earliest, when everything becomes 100% official.

I read that they opened up Tuesday for talking to players...
so they could be no more futhuer worries about tampering. They want to prevent the “crime” by makeing it legal lol…..

LOL .. we're like kids on Christmas morning. Can we open presents now?

Locking up Charles Johnson must be priority #1
DeAngelo is a ProBowl caliber RB. But if we lose him, we still have just as good a chance of sending Stewart to the ProBowl. But Charles Johnson is primed for a Pro-Bowl season in 2011. If we lose him we have NOTHING but crossed fingers for a couple young hopefuls.
