CJ #2 Pass Rusher In 2010, #8 Last 3 Years
I just found Pro Football Focus' pass rush production numbers for 2010, and the last 3 years (2008-2010), they are very revealing about Panthers DE Charles Johnson, #2 in 2010, and #8 for the last 3 years, whlie ex-Panther Julius Peppers ranks 18th. That should shut up everyone saying he hasn't earned top DE money, or that he's only had 1 good season, but I'm certain it won't.
Here are the numbers for Johnson, and the other Free Agents, along with curent (Tyler Brayton, Everette Brown, Jon Beason and James Anderson) and ex-Panther Julius Peppers.

All I've ever meant about my "CJ has had only one great year..."
…is that he’s only been a full time starter for one year. Yes, he has very good numbers for the snaps he’s taken in the past 3 years, but if someone knows he’s only going to be used situationally, he can go all out on those plays he’s on the field, compared to the 3 down players.
This doesn’t mean I don’ t think he’s due good DE money (I’m perfectly fine at $10-11 million a year…don’t know if it will require more than that to keep him in a Panthers uniform). I like CJ’s production a LOT and would like to see him a Panther for years to come. I just hope we don’t have to pay far more than other teams just to keep him here. And if he tries to go for top 5 DE money after only one full year as a starter, I don’t know that the cost-benefit analysis plays out. Had he been putting up those kinds of numbers full time for another year or 2? Yeah, I’d be behind signing him to a heftier contract. But I won’t complain about whatever the Panther FO does…unless they let him go for a song.
