Free Agent 'Seas': AFC West

This is the continuing story of how the Panthers' position in the Free Agent market stacks up to all the other teams in the League.  It's very important to know who will be shopping and who will be praying.  Previously we looked at the NFC South.  Within that story are further links to details about the CBA and each Team's cap position.  If you want to refer back, click here.

Team by Team Analysis (by division)

AFC West

Denver - $5.0 OVER cap, $18.2 OVER floor
# 2011 FAs - 7 total, 4 with 4+ years

Top FAs 2011: QB Quinn; RB Maroney; OT Ryan Harris; DE Marcus Thomas; NT Ronad Fields; ILB Wesley Woodyard; Safety Josh Barrett; K Prater
Top FAs 2012:  QB Orton; RB Spencer Larson; WR Royal; TE Daniel Graham; OG Russ Hochstein; OLB Jarvis Moss; ILB Mario Haggan; CB Nate Jones; P Colquitt

Draft Picks:  Jeremy Beal DE;  Mike Mohamed ILB;  Nate Irving ILB;  Orlando Franklin OG,  Von Miller (top 10 pick)  OLB,  Quinton Carter S,  Rahim Moore S,  Julius Thomas TE,  Virgil Green  TE

My free agency forecast for the Broncos: On the Rocks - A bad team in a bad cap situation, with 9 draft picks to sign.  I wouldn't expect the Broncs to sign any of their own FAs (unless it's Prater; they do need a kicker).  Obviously, they have to dump some salary just to get under the cap.  And they're blogging about wanting D-Will, CJ, and Anderson.

Kansas City - $46.3 under cap, $32.1 under floor
# 2011 FAs - 17 total, 15 with 4+ years

Top FAs 2011:  QB Croyle; RB Mike Cox; TE Leonard Pope; OTs Ryan O'Callaghan, Barry Richardson; Cs Casey Weigmann, Rudy Niswanger; NTs Ron Edwards, Shaun Smith; OLBs Vrabel, Tamba Hali (Franchised, Probe Owler), ILB Corey Mays, CBs Brandon Carr, Maurice Leggett, Travis Daniels
Top FAs 2012:  RB Javarris Williams; WRs Bowe (Probe Owler), Jerheme Urban; OG Brian Waters (Probe Owler); CB Brandon Flowers; K Succop

Draft Picks:  Rodney Hudson C;  Jalil Brown DB; Allen Bailey DE; Justin Houston DE; Jerrell Powe DT; Gabe Miller OLB; Ricky Stanzi QB; Shane Bannon RB; Jonathan Baldwin WR

My free agency forecast for the ChiefsChoppy Seas - While the Chiefs have plenty of cap room, they've got 9 draft picks and a lot of big money FAs hanging around.  And with Shaun Smith nearby, you don't want anything hanging around (google him - lol).  When all's said and done, it looks to me like the Chiefs have too much in-house work to do for them to be looking around much.

Oakland - $34.2 under cap, $21.0 under floor
# 2011 FAs - 26 total, 18 with 4+ years

Top FAs 2011:  QB Gradkowski; RB Michael Bush; WR Johnnie Lee Higgins;  TE Zach Miller (Probe Owler); OTs Mario Henderson, Khalif Barnes; C Samson Satele; DE Jason Richardson; DT Desmond Bryant; OLBs Thomas Howard, Sam Williams; MLB Ricky Brown; CBs Aso (Probe Owler), Stanford Routt; Safeties Tyvon Branch, Hiram Eugene
Top FAs 2012:  QB Campbell; WR Jason Schilens; OLBs Kameron Wembley, Trevor Scott, Quinten Groves; Safety Michael Huff

Draft Picks:  Stefen Wisniewski C, Chimdi Chekwa DB, Demarcus Van Dyke DB, Joe Barksdale OT, Taiwan Jones RB, Richard Gordon TE, David Ausberry WR, Denarius Moore WR

My free agency forecast for da Raidas:  Calm Seas - Cannons Loaded,  the Silver Pearl is on the prowl.  They look to have plenty of cash to re-sign TE Miller and make a run at keeping Aso in Oakland.  QB is a question mark; do they re-sign Campbell or wait?  Whether by re-signing their own or plundering FAs, the Raiders will also need to look at Centers and LBs.  My guess is they'll be looking at guys that are fast, regardless of position.

San Diego - $34.2 under cap, $21.0 under floor
# 2011 FAs - 23 total, 15 with 4+ years

Top FAs 2011:  QB Volek; RBs Sproles, Tolbert; WRs Jackson (Franchised), Floyd, Naanee; TE Randy McMichael; OTs Brandyn Dombrowski, Jeromy Clary; C Scott Mruczkowski; DEs Jacques Cesaire, Travis Johnson, Ryon Bingham; ILBs Stephen Cooper; Kevin Burnett, Brandon Siler; OLBs Antwan Barnes, Antwan Applewhite; Safeties Weddle, Paul Oliver, Tyrone Carter
Top FAs 2012:  RB Jacob Hester; WR Craig Davis; TE Kris Wilson; OT Corey Clark; C Nick Hardwick; NT Garay; CBs Vasher, Strickland; Safety Steve Gregory; P Scifres

Draft Picks:  Marcus Gilchrist DB; Shareece Wright DB; Corey Liuget DT; Steve Schilling OG; Andrew Gachkar OLB, Jonas Mouton OLB, Jordan Todman RB, Vincent Brown WR

My free agency forecast for the ChargersChoppy Seas - While in the same cap position as the Raiders, the Chargers have to pony up for VJ, and they have expired or expiring contracts hitting them at WR, ILB, Safety, RB, and Center.  They'll be hard pressed to sign some of their best players, which is why I think they'd be open for a trade.

Next up: The NFC East and AFC East (I've got to pick up the pace or Free Agency will be finished before I am)
