Why we may be in a better position with free agents than anyone thought

First let me say I love this site, and have been lurking and reading all the great content for some time now. Given that we now have a pretty good idea of the new cap and free agency is now so close it got me thinking and led to this post. With a current obligation for 2011 of just over $73 million, it looks as if we will need to spend nearly $35 million to reach the new salary floor. Based on those numbers, I see no reason why we wouldn't be able to at least make a serious play to keep DWill as well as Charles Johnson and James Anderson.  From all indications Johnson will be the priority and based on performance he deserves and will get serious money, but even if that number is $10 million they still need to spend $25 million. With the new rookie wage scale Cam should only account for approx. $7 million and lets say the rest of the draft picks count for another 5 million which should be generous considering they are all 3rd rounders and higher, that's still $13 million before you hit the salary floor. From what I've read around the web it looks like we can expect Anderson to command about $5 million and Davis (coming off injuries) to command about $3 million so that leaves us with another $5 million for DWill without even exceeding the minimum of spending for the 2011 season.  This doesn't even account for the additional cap space that could come should they decide to deal Smitty, which I hope doesn't happen. All in all I believe we are in a VERY good position heading into the signing period and free agency. I for one am an extremely excited Panthers fan! Also anyone wondering where the current cap numbers came from look here:  http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/37327/looking-at-2011-salary-cap-figures
