It's quite simple really and can be explained with one equation:
Good OL + Two excellent RBs = Offensive success
Granted, anyone can throw out a formula like this, but what if you have the proof to back it up? Today Pro Football Focus give us two reasons to be excited as Carolina Panthers fans, the first we already knew about but it's their 2010 offensive line rankings they have the Panthers as 2010's 7th best OL in the NFL. At this point there's so much evidence in favor of the OL that I think we can finally put to rest the idea that the OL was as bad as the QB play, it just wasn't.
PFF have Carolina as the 13th best run blocking team, and the 5th best pass blocking team- a skill which will undoubtedly aid Cam Newton immensely. PFF say the only concern for the OL is that Jeff Otah can return to the starting lineup at RT, however, if they're able to rank 7th in the league without him then I think they're in good shape.
This news about the OL was then coupled with the RB elusiveness ratings over the last three years, also by Pro Football Focus. Guess what? DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart rank #1 and #2 in the league in this category with Williams causing his man to miss 21% of the time, and Stewart 20% of the time.
I'll leave more in depth analysis for a post-CBA season preview, but I think there are a lot of reasons to start getting excited if you're a Carolina Panthers fan.
