Could D-Will Be Leaving Carolina?

Gregg Rosenthal has done a rundown of Carolina's needs for the off season once the lockout ends. The full article can be found at: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/06/06/team-checklist-carolina-panthers/. What caught my eye was that Mr. Rosenthal seemed quite certain about the future of one our top players.

In the article, it is not so much assumed but a certainty that DeAngelo Williams will not be around for the upcoming season. While I encourage all of you to read the full article because there are some other interesting notes worth discussing his comments about D-Will really stuck with me.

2. Say goodbye to DeAngelo Williams.

Williams is a great player that just isn’t worth the cash for this team. Jonathan Stewart is one of the ten most talented backs in the league. Carolina should spend their money elsewhere, and get a nice compensatory pick in return for Williams.

We all know that Jonathan Stewart is more than capable of leading the rushing game but I really feel the Panthers can retain both of them. I guess from a financial stand point it comes down to not being able to sign two quality players to long term contracts (Williams and Charles Johnson) and eventually getting Ryan Kalil wrapped up. So what is your take CSR? Is Carolina ready for life after Williams? Or even more noteworthy...life without both Steve Smith or D-Will?
