3rd round pick Sione Fua to join Panthers workouts today or tomorrow

School's out for Summer, and school's out forever for Carolina Panthers' third round pick Sione Fua who chose to wait until finals and get his degree in 'Science, Technology and Society' before switching coasts and join players in the Private workouts they have been holding. According to his Twitter:

sione fua
On the plane headed to north Carolina!

This make Fua the 55th player to participate in the private workouts that have been going for the last seven days. The Panthers intend to have nine workouts, the final of which on Wednesday will be open to the media and easily the most illuminating for fans who are desperate to hear how #1 overall pick Cam Newton is looking, along with the rest of the rookies.

Ron Rivera is already heaping praise on his players telling the AP's Mike Cranston he's "very proud" of the players for organizing the workout, in turn saying the turnout is "outstanding". For a disciplinarian like Rivera it's easy to see why he would be so pleased with the players taking the initiative during their off-season to begin work.

Do you know which if any other rookies are in attendance?

And I think that Fua was the one who was not there last week (because of school)...

So, as of now, I think all of the rookies have come out. =) That’s good news to hear.

At this point would you take Luck over Cam?

I think you’d have to. But Cam’s growing on me. At this point I’d hate to not be able to see him playing in a Panther uniform.

Yes and this point absolutely

Now, if Cam is as good as advertised ask me in 6 months and I’ll probably have a different answer, but right now no rookie I have seen compares to Luck on a level of polish.

You, being positive?

This cannot be! :-)

I totally agree with you — I’m glad he chose to finish school.

He better get a degree. He’s going to need it after he flops this year.

Any Plexico Sighting…..I know chances are LONG with Jets,Pats,Eagles all rumored but at low cost id take him tomorrow. He always played with size. Put him in on red zone packages and he can still score on most dbs in the NFL. 6’5 230 is a lot too cover on a jump ball.

Is he in football shape though?

I just don’t know if he’s worth the investment.

It is worth a shot if he comes cheap.

What else has he had to do for the last 2 years except ecercise?

I don’t know. That is just the stereotypical jail stuff you see in the movies.

He can still jump and catch a football im sure. Newton throws high so id like to have a 6’5 target to neglect that. San Deigo had huge wr’s. im sure chud wouldn’t mind the target either. Sign Plex trade Smith for Jackson and our Redzone offense with Newton and Shockey becomes one of the more dangerous on paper in the leauge.

There’s a difference between being in shape and being in football shape.

Plus, he’s never been known as a “give it all you’ve got for the team” type player. Of course prison changes people, but I just don’t know if I’d sign him.

i dont really think we will even be able to really think about it. I was just bringing it up as more a conversation starter. He got out he had on a fresh Phillies hat on…Vick has seen him in prison…Don’t take a genius to see where this is headed.

No other player is really in ‘football shape’ right now.. The lockout really helps Plaxico get back into offseason shape.. I’d sign him if we could, but something tells me Panthers arent going to be on his radar..

I'm very proud that we've had so many players show up.

I wish someone would have stepped up and arranged this a little earlier. But, I am glad that Gross and Wharton did everything together. And 55 players is an excellent turnout. Has any other team had that many players show up? Of course, we were the 2-14 team last year, and we really needed to have more players show up than any other team.

Shockey’s supposed to be coming this week, right? So if he’s not here yet, but makes it later this week, he’ll be the 56th player.

I think it is impressive with such a young team to have such a heavy turn out. We have few vets and other then the kickers and steve smith no one is over 30. Im curious on what impression Mr Newton has made. First time meeting him for a lot of guys.

Shockey is in town

My brother in law is a manager at the Cheesecake Factory at South Park. He texted me today that Cam Newton and Jeremy Shockey had lunch there today.

I'm such a dork...

But that makes me really happy. Good move for the rookie QB to start building a relationship with the new vet TE.

Not dorky at all

its a great move by the rookie. Cam is growing on me. Still not buying a jersey but if he starts and we improve to .500 I’ll seriously consider it.

Cam and Shockey seem to have hit it off. Ive heard his name most in contacts with cam
