Who will face Jake Delhomme in the match-up to determine the greatest Panther of all time? It's been a long road thus far, but we're almost there.
The bracket can be found here... you know the rest.
Steve Smith, WR
Statistics as a Panther: 620 receptions, 8,884 yards, 52 TD
Accolades: Pro Bowl (2001, 2005, 2006, 2008), All Pro (2001, 2005, 2008), 2005 Triple Crown Winner, 2005 Comeback player of the year
Steve Smith is Carolina Panther offense. It's rare that you can say a single player is the embodiment of an entire organization, but Smith is one of those players. Small, gritty, fighting tooth and nail for every last yard-- as a scrappy receiver Smitty has captured the hearts of fans and littered our collective consciousness with fond memories. Though off the field he's had issues here or there he's always remained a fan favorite. Here's hoping we'll have many more years with Smith at WR.
John Kasay, K
Statistics as a Panther: 221 games, 351 FG, 75.5% accuracy
Accolades: Pro Bowl (1996), Panthers' all time leading scorer with 1,482 points (over 1,000 more than #2)
For over 200 games John Kasay has quietly donned the black and electric blue for the Carolina Panthers. Every major event that has happened to this organization Kasay has been there for. A consummate professional who never makes waves, always does the right thing and is immensely respected by his teammates. It takes a special player to keep his job even when his strength is declining, but this occurred with Kasay as the Panthers elected to bring in a kick off specialist and willingly sacrifice a roster spot rather than find a replacement for Kasay.
