Panthers QB Cam Newton nominated for four ESPY awards
According to ESPN's Pat Yasinskas there's only one player from the NFC South nominated in this year's ESPY awards-- and it's the Carolina Panthers new QB Cam Newton who is listed on the ballot "repeatedly". Not only is Newton up for the best college male athlete, but he's also nominated for best breakthrough athlete, along with best game for his leadership against Alabama last year, while Newton and the Auburn Tigers are nominated for best athlete.
Sure, the ESPY's are more pomp and circumstance than any real recognition, but it's nice to see a member of the Carolina Panthers get recognized in a positive way, even if he hasn't taken a snap yet. It's the kind of performances like those that got Newton nominated for ESPY awards that made the decision for the Carolina Panthers easy when they took him #1 overall.
Tune in to the ESPYs on July 13th to see if Newton can add some more hardware to his already impressive resume.

Go Cam!
Hey, he wasn’t my first choice, but I’m definitely in his corner now. Anything he can do to bring credibility to the Panthers is very welcome. Hopefully, he can become one of the greats. Time will tell.
In situations like this when things are bad, the easy thing to do is fold up the tent, just pack it up and accept it. But winners and people who are successful realize that when things get tough, it’s an opportunity to define yourself. They realize that in this moment, you can do something great. - Jon Beason

When it was working it was a thing of beauty to me. - Vagus
(Please note that from now on I shall only refer to Cam as "The Newt" and Rivera as "BAMF")
He's got Florio's attention, too.
I hated draft day. Prior to the draft, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that the Panthers would be selecting Cam. I really thought the pick would be better used elsewhere. That was bolstered by some pretty scathing criticques of Newton from a variety of respected evalutators. I won’t say they were wrong yet as Cam as yet to take a snap. But like everybody else has said who’s been following his post-draft comings and goings, the guy is doing and saying everything right.
That brings us to Florio. Check out this link http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/06/24/cam-newton-wont-bring-race-into-the-game/ (and its imbedded link). Not sure about the striped sweaters, though.
Offensive Rookie of the Year?
Could it be a possibilty? Cam is cleaning house with these nominations so perhaps its not a stretch to suggest he will put up some decent numbers and get some consideration.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained...sometimes you have to go against the grain.
