This is the final of our 2nd round matchups. This afternoon we move into the 3rd round and it's going to be a doozie. Today we have two of the Panthers' defensive standouts.
Who do you think is the greater Panther?
Mike Minter, SS
For Minter's first four seasons the NFL did not track tackles of passes defended by DBs- so Minter's stats look fairly low. However, anyone who saw him play with regularity know what an absolute force he was at SS. To this day the Carolina Panthers are still looking for a reliable SS to hold down the field the way Minter could. The zenith of his career came in 2003 when he totaled 96 tackles and 3 INT- returning two for touchdowns. Today, he remains a vital part of the Charlotte community.
Jon Beason, MLB
Statistics as a Panther: 64 games, 540 tackles, 8 INT, 3 FF
Accolades: Pro Bowl (2008, 2009, 2010), All Pro (2008, 2009)
In a short time Jon Beason has proved to be the undeniable leader of the Carolina Panthers. When he arrived in Charlotte as a 1st round pick in 2007 he saw a team in desperate need of a defensive leader and went about filling that role. Since that time Beason has further taken on the role as leader and with the departure Jake Delhomme he cemented himself as the 'go to' leader on both sides of the ball. When this is coupled with outstanding on field play, averaging 135 tackles each season you have a player who is on the fast track to 'greatest ever' whether it's now, or in the future.
