Top Undrafted Free Agents, Who Might The Panthers Sign?

I just finished reading Rick Bates great article "Free Agency: Predictions, Salary Cap States, ...", and I'm getting excited that a new CBA deal may be reached soon, so I thought I should post this list of possible UDFA's before we wake up some morning to find that teams have started signing players. On average each team will sign around 17 UDFA's, that's around 550 players, so you may never have heard of most of them. Relax, I won't post all 550 names, just who are some of the top players that the Panthers will have a chance to chose from, and then I'll list my picks.

The Panthers need to sign at least 1 NT, 1 DT, 1 DE, 1 MLB, 1 OLB, 2 SS, 1 FS, 1or 2 CB's, 1 C, 1 or 2 OT's, 1 or 2 TE's, 1 WR. 1 or 2 RB's, and no QB's. I will start with the Defensive players, and then the offensive players.

DEFENSIVE PLAYERS:

Nose Tackles:

Anthony Gray (5-11 3/4, 330, 31 1/2 inch arms, 5.17-40, 39 bench reps, 31 1/2 inch vertical jump, 9-4 broad jump) of Southern Miss, He had 44 tackles, 6 TFL's, and 2 sacks in 2010.

Ian Williams (6-1 1/4, 319, 32 inch arms, 5.14-40, 1.75-10, 31 bench reps, 28 1/2 inch vertical jump, 8-2 broad jump) of Notre Dame. Though Williams was undrafted, nfldraftscout.com actually ranked him higher than the Panthers #97 pick, NT Sione Fua.

Dexter Larimore (6-2 5/8, 319, 5.11-40, 32 bench reps, 29 1/2 inch vertical jump) of Ohio St.

Lawton Scott (6-1, 318, 5.32-40) of Mississippi.

Blake Sumner (6-1 1/8, 335, 10 inch hands, 30 7/8 arms, 538-40, 1.82-10, 45 bench reps) from the Colorado School of Mines.

Adrian Taylor (6-3, 311, 33 inch arms, 5.22-40) of Oklahoma. He missed the 2010 season due to a serious knee injury, and was unable to workout at the Combine, but was expected to be a 3rd or 4th round pick a year ago.

More after the jump...

Defensive Tackles:

Martin Parker (6-2 1/8, 303, 33 3/4 inch arms, 5.03-40, a Pro Day 4.92-40, 1.71-10, 29 inch vertical) of Richmond. He ha 96 tackles (more than any DT drafted), 13.5 TFL's, 5.5 sacks in 2010, and was voted the Defensive MVP of the East-West Shrin Game, ahead of Panthers #65 pick DT Terrell McClain. His and McClain's Combine workout numbers are almost identical, and he had 4 times as many tackles in 2010 as McClain (96 to 24).

Cedric Thornton ( 6-3 1/8, 309, 33 5/8 inch arms, 5.26-40, 1.82-10) of Southern Arkansas.

Sealver Siliga (6-1 3/4, 314, 34 1/2 inch arms, 5.35-40) of Utah.

Ted Laurent (6-1, 304, 5.02-40) of Mississippi.

Defensive Ends:

DE/OLB Ugo Chinasa (6-4 7/8, 264, 36 inch arms, 4.71-40, a Pro Day 4.65-40, 1.65-10) of Oklahoma St. His production wasn't as good as you would think from his numbers, with 38 tackles, 6 TFL's, and 4 sacks.

Piere Allen (6-4, 273, 35 inch arms, 4.78-40) of Nebraska. He's good against the run, but only had 3.5 sacks in 2010, but 65 tackles, and 11.5 TFL's.

Mark Schiechi (6-2 1/2, 251, 33 7/8 inch arms, 4.65-40, 1.66-10, 38 bench reps) of the Colorado School of Mines. He had 46 career sacks.

Justin Rindt (6-3 1/4, 267, 31 1/8 inch arms, 4.72-40, 1.67-10) of Wisconsin.

Zane Parr (6-4, 281, 4.79-40) of Virginia.

Vic So'oto (6-3, 263, 4.63-40) of BTU.

Eddie Jones (6-2, 258, 4.75-40) of Texas

Antoine Carter (6-3 3/8, 259, 4.76-40) of Auburn.

Middle Linebacker:

MLB/SLB Mario Harvey (5-10 7/8, 257, 32 7.8 inch arms, 4.43-40) of Marshall. He would be perfect for a 3-4 defense, if paired with Beason, shifting to ILB from SLB, with the DE droppong back to SLB. They said he ran like a WR at his workout, but surprisingly isn't good in pass coverage, because Marshall prefered to use him as a blitzer.

MLB/SLB Scott Lutrus (6-2 3/8, 241, 31 1/2 inch arms, 4.68-40, 1.56-10, 38 inch vertical, 10-1 broad jump) of U Conn.

Jeff Tarpinian (6-2, 235, 4.56-40) of Iowa.

Corbani Mixon (6-1, 241, 4.65-40, 39 bench reps, 35 1/5 inch vertical) of Kent St.

Michael Lockley (6-2 1/4, 237, 4.61-40, 38 1/2 inch vertical jump, 10-9 inch broad jump, 6.84 3-cone drill), of Florida Atlantic.

Josh Bynes (6-1 5/8, 240, 4.80-40) of Auburn.

Outside Linebackers:

Adrian Moten (6-1 5/8, 234, 31 3/8 inch arms, 4.62-40, a Pro Day 4.55-40, 1.61-10) of Maryland.

Keith Darbut (6-4 1/8, 229, 4.38-40, a record 1.42-10, 38 inch vertical, 10-6 broad jump) of Division III Baldwin-Wallace College. He played DE in college, with 43 tackles, 15 TFL's, 10.5 sacks, and 11 QB hurries in 2010, so it will take him a while to adjust to a new position, and vastly better competition. However, he runs faster than most WR's, and should be good on special teams until he's ready to play OLB.

Jason Werner (6-3 5/8, 225, 4.50-40) of Purdue.

Eric Gordon (5-11 5/8, 225, 4.53-40 40 1/2 inch vertical jump, 10-7 broad jump) of Michigan St.

Steven Friday (6-3, 240, 4.66-40) of Virginia Tech.

Cornerbacks

Josh Gatlin (6-1 1/8, 196, 4.39-40, 35 1/2 inch vertical jump, 9-10 broad jump) of North Dakota St.

Vince Agnew (5-10, 192, 4.38-40, 39 1/2 inch vertical jump, 11-2 broad jump, 6.68 3-cone drill) of Central Michigan.

Darrin Walls (6-1, 191, 4.43-40) of Notre Dame.

Kevin Rutland (5-11 7/8, 190, 31 1/8 inch arms, 4.59-40, a Pro Day 4.43-40) of Missouri.

Ryan Jones (5-11 1/8, 197, 4.43-40) of Northwest Missouri St.

Free Safeties:

Danta Williams (6-2, 205, 33 1/4 inch arms, 4.53-40) of UNC. He was expected to be a late 1st or 2nd round pick at this time last year.

Corey Nelms (5-11, 191, 4.39-40, 37 inch vertical) of Miami. He's not a starter, but good on special teams.

Jarrard Tarrant ( 60-3/8, 204, 31 5/8 inch arms, 4.62-40, a Pro Day 4.50-40, 1.54-10) of Georgia Tech.

Andrew Walters (5-11 7/8, 204, 32 1/8 inch arms, 4.50-40, 1.51-10, 36 1/2 inch vertical jump, 10-6 broad jump) of Delaware.

Correy Earls (6-0, 193, 4.42-40) of Georgia Tech.

Strong Safeties:

Keanemana "Mana" Silva (6-0 3/4, 206, 4.41-40, 40 inch vetical jump, 10-3 broad jump), of Hawaii. He might help keep WR Kealoha Pilares from getting homesick.

Ron Parker (5-11 3/4, 206, 32 3/8 inch arms, 4.34-40, 1.54-10, 10-2 broad jump) of Newberry College (SC). The Panthers and Lions tried to hide him from other teams, by not sending a workout report.

Anthony Bratton (6-0 1/8, 213, 32 1/4 inch arms, 4.50-40, 1.52-10, 37 inch vertical jump, 10-5 broad jump) of Delaware.

DeAndre McDaniel (6-0 1/8, 217, 32 inch arms, 4.65-40, 1.60-10, 35 inch vertical jump) of Clemaon.

Joseph Lefeged (5-11 5/8, 210, 31 1/2, 4.43-40, 1.52-10, 36 1/2 inch vertical jump, 10-2 broad jump) of Rutgers.

OFFENSE:

Quarterbacks:

No Needs

Running Backs:

Mario Fannin (5-10 3/8, 231, 4.38-40, 1.51-10, 37 1/2 inch vertical, 10-0 broad jump) of Auburn. He never gained more than the 448 yards he did in his rookie season, in the following years, but he averaged 5.3, 4.4, 8.4, and 6.5. He's a very good blocker, who could be a backup FB, the Speed to backup Goodson, with the size and speed to backup Stewart.

Noel Devine (5-7, 179, 4,26-40, 35 1/2 inch vertical jump) of West Virgina. His best season was in 2009, when he rushed 1,465 yards in 241 carries, a 6.1 average. However, due to assorted minor injuries in 2010 he slumped to 936 yards, on 209 carries, a 4.5 average, but his catches increased to 34 (he had 35 in 2008). If Chud want's a small RB like he had with the Chargers Sprools, then Devine is the man, though he hasn't any return experience.

Donald Buckram (5-9, 195, 4.40-40) of UTEP. His best season was his junior year of 2009, with 259 carries, for 1,594 yards, 6.2 average, with 18 TD's, and 30 catches for a 15.1 average, and 3 TD's, 2047 total yards. However, a injury held him to only 81 carries in 2010, a 4.1 average, but his workout speed shows he's fully recovered.

Derrick Locke (5-8 1/4, 188, 4.40-40, 1.52-10, 37 1/2 inch vertical jump) of Kentucky. He had 907 rushing yards, in 195 carries, for a 4.7 average in 2009, but dropped off a little in 2010 with887 yards, on 166 carries, for a 5.3 average.

Brandon Saine (5-11 1/4, 220, 4.40-40, 1.53-10) of Ohio St. His only season with more than 337 rushing yards was 2009, with 739 yards, on 145 carries, a 5.1 average.

Nic Grigsby (5-11 1/4, 199, 4.38-40, 43 inch vertical jump, 11-0 broad jump) of Arizona. Injuries held him back in college.

Jeremy Avery (5-8 3/4, 181, 4.41-40, 38 inch vertical jump, 10-5 broad jump) of Bosie St.

Wide Receivers:

Terrence Toliver (6-3 1/2, 212, 10 inch hands, 4.59-40, a Pro Day 4.54-40, 1.56-10, 10-2 broad jump) of LSU, like LaFell. He had 41 catches with a 14.1 average, with 5 TD's in 2010.

Darvin Adams (6-2 1/8, 190, 9 1/4 inch hands, 4.56-40, 1.63-10, 35 inch vertical jump) of Auburn. He had 60 catches in 2009, and 52, for 963, a18.5 average, and 7 TD's in 2010.

DeAndre Brown (6-5 5/8, 233, 9 5/8 inch hands, 4.59-40, 1.61-10) of Southern Miss. His Production peeked in he freshman year, with 67 catches, for 1.117 yards, a 16.7 average, with 12 TD's in 2008, then dropped to 47 in 2009, and 20 in 2010, thanks to a leg injury.

Terrell Zachery (5-11, 205, 4.44-40) of Auburn.

Tight Ends:

Andre Smith (6-4, 270, 4.80-40) of Virginia Tech. He's like having an extra OT, having his most catches (20) in 2010, for 195 yards, a 9.8 average, with 5 TD's.

Collin Franklin (6-6, 256, 4.69-40) of Iowa State. He had a breakout year in 2010, with 54 catches, for 530 yards, a 9.8 average, with 3 TD's.
